I was just about to pull this, the last carrot in my garden. It was a little puny, the smallest of the bunch. The carrot itself would probably only be a few inches. That’s when I noticed it—the green and black caterpillar with yellow spots. A quick google search revealed that one day it would become an eastern black swallowtail butterfly. And it chose the smallest carrot in the garden as its home. Don’t overlook the small things—sometimes they’re the sweetest.
