Solopreneurs, we need to talk!⠀

If you're comparing yourself to your competition, ⠀
this may be keeping you from finding out what makes you unique.⠀

I know comparison is so tempting to buy into, right? ⠀

It has its perks to looking around when working alone: ⠀

The distraction, the entertainment! ⠀

(I've been here myself. So we're all in good company here!😊)⠀

But here's what obsessing with your competition may be costing you: ⠀

It starts with adapting your strategy and ends with you blending in.⠀

And this leads to missing out on some important things, like:⠀

> Building meaningful relations with your existing customers.⠀

> Creating the right collaborations for your business.⠀

> Innovating on services or products. ⠀

So, how do you beat the comparison beast and start finding what makes you unique?⠀

It's easy: Stop lurking at your competitors' profiles and start digging into your story!⠀

That's where you'll find your competitive edge. It's that simple!⠀

So, next time you catch yourself spying around, stop, and remind yourself: ⠀

You’re leading; you’re not following.⠀

Here’s some inspiration on how powerful an origin story can be:

"NO ONE GETS ME!" ⠀

Talking to entrepreneurs in the past years I've encountered the same story over and over again:⠀

“I’d love to __________________. (fill in the blank) But I feel that no one gets my idea! ⠀
How will I ever make a difference when the people around me don't inspire my idea to grow?" ⠀

If you've ever said this to yourself, I'm going to be very frank with you today:⠀

It's an excuse. ⠀
⠀⠀
Now, don't be mad at me for saying this out loud.⠀
We've all been there at some point.⠀
Here's what you can do to flip the script and make the best out of your idea! ⠀

Stop acting like a vacuum salesman!

So many solopreneurs agonize about one question:

Why won’t my customers understand the real value of my product or service?

And way too often, this mindset leads to a way bigger issue:

Acting like a vacuum salesman.
Aka: “Hey, I just met you. Buy my product!”

The truth is:
Your customer doesn’t want to be sold to; they want to be understood.
And creating customer trust isn’t a matter of interrupting their lives.
It’s a matter of making their lives better.

In this Q+A I share the critical difference between branding and marketing and how you can start to position yourself as the go-to person for your customer.

Nobody is perfect.⁣
We make mistakes.⁣
We say wrong things.⁣
We do wrong things.⁣
We fall. We get up.⁣
We learn. We grow.⁣
We move on. We live.⁣

We weren’t born to be perfect, we were born to be human.⁣

I had the huge pleasure to talk about this at Wanderlust 108. Take a look.⁣

'I just don't feel comfortable putting myself out there'.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It breaks my heart seeing talented and hard working people who are afraid of being seen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏽I see them holding back in meetings.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏽I see them struggling to publish their great work.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏽I see them longing to stand up and share their greatest passion on stage. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each time I talk to these amazing people, they tell me they just don’t feel comfortable putting themselves out there.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you for whatever reason came to believe that 'standing out' isn't safe, 🙏🏽 please think of the following:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You might actually become the reason someone else decides to stand out tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So... what are you holding back, gangster?⠀⠀⠀⠀

When I tell people that I am in a relationship for 12 years now, I often look into faces of amazement.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I say that we have met four days before I left the country for three years, I often earn baffled reactions:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"How did you do it?"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Well, it wasn't always farting rainbows and riding unicorns into the sunset. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Forget about:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Boy meets girl, they overcome ONE obstacle. Kiss. - The End. 🎉 Oxytocin for all.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's more like:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Two people meet, have a rush of hormones, and once the rush is gone, decide if they want to support one another in their growth.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some days are good. Some are bad. Some days are exhausting. Some days are hilarious.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And some days simply are.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you look at marriage as a constant source of growth, instead of a source to satisfy your unfulfilled desires, you are set to play forever.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We don't fall in love, we come together in love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⁣⁣⁣Today is Global Mental Health Awareness Day. ⠀⠀
And taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be the last resort.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
These are my top 10 you can start doing today - based on the last six years talking to people about their inner world:⠀⠀

1. Get off any app that promises love but gives pain. Love is not in your phone.⠀⠀

2. Have a close look at your inner circle, are the people around you lifting you up?⠀⠀

3. Stop the destination addiction: In most cases the next job, country or title won’t bring you fulfilment you are really searching for.⠀⠀

4. Start practicing appreciation and gratitude for the small things. It works wonders.⠀⠀

5. Exercise at least every second day.⠀⠀

6. Start practicing yoga or martial arts, any physical exercise that makes you reconnect with your body and look inward.⠀⠀

7. Take inventory at all the processed food you are consuming and start to make a change.Try the 80/20 rule, if it’s hard to start.⠀⠀

8. Implement these three magical words into your vocabulary. For yourself, your employees and your family: “Are you ok?”⠀⠀

9. Start taking decisions more mindfully. Practice saying “No” more often.⠀⠀

10. Bonus: Help the people around you take mindful decisions for themselves first, it will translate into your relationship with them.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀
How do you take care of yourself in your every day life?⠀⠀

💥⁣⁣Take risks + be love Pt2. ⠀

Perfection and bulletproof doesn't exist in the human experience.⠀⠀
But it's easy to get caught up in the illusion of it.⠀⠀

It would be the first time I speak in front of a big audience. I had it all planned out.⠀

I want to say the perfect words at the right time, dance when it was time to dance, laugh when it was time to laugh. I want it to be flawless.⠀

As Erik and I set foot on stage, I remember one of the advices I got for this day:⠀
"Show them the very best version of yourself!"⠀

I tell myself, Julie: This-is-on!⠀
We start, we speak, we dance, it feels flawless.⠀

Until I ask the crowd to share their moment of truth:⠀
The one thing they have been feeling and thinking but never expressed before.⠀

I walk into the crowd and up to a beautiful silver haired woman, I ask her to share:⠀

She looks me deep into the eyes, takes a breath:⠀⠀
"You know, I really wish I'd be more courageous."⠀⠀

Her answer really hits home. I catch my breath, I feel so moved, I open my arms and we hug for a few seconds.⠀

What you see in this video, is the moment I truly understand, that all of this was never about me delivering the perfect performance.⠀

It never is when you go on stage, but it’s easy to get caught up in the illusion of it.⠀

A lot of us are brought up with the idea that perfectionism is something respectable and desirable.⠀⠀

But the truth is, perfectionism makes you feel that it’s all about you and it isolates you from everyone else.⠀⠀

It makes you forget how connected we are as humans.⠀

So focus on love instead. If you ever get caught up in the perfect version of yourself, take the risk and focus on love.

💥Take risks + Be love. Pt.1

"I don't know if I will make it."
This was me one night before I had to step on stage in front of 1500 people.
-
My partner Erik, who is a speaker for several years, looked at me:
"Look gangster, I know you can do it. Your husband knows you can do it. The only one who has to believe it is you."
-
Erik and I met on the beginning of this year when he asked me for the first time:
"Why aren't you a speaker?"
-
Little did he know that being a speaker was facing my past:

I had to go on stage on my first day in school, I played it so cool my mother didn't realise how nervous I was until I came down and got an unstoppable nosebleed.
-
At a Toastmasters meeting years ago I was asked on stage to improvise, I froze, got self-conscious and walked home in shame. 🙈
-
When I was studying to become a business coach, I had to give my final exams in front of a committee, I was so nervous I almost puked in the bathroom of the academy.

And now we signed up to be on stage in front of 1500 people.

Would I be able to break the spell?👻

I found this video my husband phone, I didn't realise he was filming me.

What you see in this video is me having a serious conversation with myself.
A conversation about fear and how I would not let it stop me again.🤞🏼

My moment of truth.

About

Hey there,

I am Julia, but my friends call me Julish!

I help creative business owners and professionals tackle that ‘Who am I? What do I stand for? And ‘What is my legacy?’ in a no BS but loving way.

My journey led me to get invited to speak at conferences like Wanderlust 108 and to coach speakers at TedX Barcelona.

I imagine a world with less perfectionism and more truth, where not only the loudest but also the thoughtful step up and share their message. It’s my believe that like that, we can make the world a little bit better, one story at a time.

You can book me to speak at your event or as a personal brand consultant.
Just drop me a message and let some magic happen!
