Struggling private bus companies are abandoning commuter service. Can NJ Transit step in? Ridership is way down after the pandemic, so DeCamp, Coach and A&C are cutting service. NJ Transit, meanwhile, faces huge operating deficits

Jan O'Konsky passed away yesterday at age 79 after a short illness. He was a close friend of 51 years; and co-owned the 1940 White bus that we bought in 1971 and donated to the Museum of Bus Transportation in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 2000. Jan was one of a kind and a giant of the bus business. He could diagnose and repair just about anything that moved. Besides his bus industry positions (driver, mechanic, Superintendent of Maintenance for several bus companies and, finally, owner and operator of a small charter bus company) he owned many historic automobiles, was an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic for Braniff Airlines, and even owned a boat.
He was a great friend to me and will be missed by many others in the bus business. He leaves his devoted wife Clarissa.
May he Rest in Peace.

NOTE THE WIRE LOOM...
When I started in the bus business we ran GM Transit Buses. If you look at these pictures you will see how they loomed the wires.
It is very simple to loom this way, start with a clove hitch using waxed string then loop it around and back though the loop every few inches and pull tight. The wire also had cloth insulation around it.
