Let’s talk SOIL HEALTH with Karson from @redmondagriculture

These 2 questions are probably the most common DM’s we get So let’s break them down. 1. Can I plant “xyz” Certain veggies should be planted at certain times of the season to ensure the best growth! Cool crop veggies (carrots/brassicas/herbs etc) are generally planted a few weeks before your last frost date and can be planted again in June for a fall harvest. (June is for us, it depends on when your frost date is!!) Your hot weather crops are planted in the later spring/summer once the temps are warm enough. These plants are generally planted one time through the seasons. These are your tomatoes, melons, squashes etc. Some plants are planted early before your frost but are harvested into late summer—such as potatoes and onions. So to know if your plants can be planted again, you’ll need to figure out your last frost date. Note the veggie you want to plant days to maturity and count backwards. If that date hasn’t passed yet, the you’ll have time to grow it. (Remember, you do need to add time as you get closer to the fall because you lose daylight hours which causes the plant to grow a little slower). 2. My plants are dying!! What’s happening to them. There can be a number of reasons why your plants are dying. But the 2 main causes are lack of healthy soil and too much or too little watering. To make sure your soil is good, soil test at the beginning of the season and amend according to the soils needs. Ensure you’re watering consistently. Keep the soil consistently moist, not dry/wet/dry/wet Of course, if you have visible disease on your plants then there can be other factors but generally speaking, healthy soil = healthy plants. Unhealthy soil = unhealthy plants so always start checking your soil, first! We teach all of this inside our online course “The Effortless Garden(er)” where we teach you how to grow a garden and rely less on the grocery store. Comment “TEG” to learn more

We were growing too much food and couldn’t eat it fast enough and we were looking for a way to make our home grown food last longer. Then we discovered the benefits of a freeze dryer. The freeze dryer removes all the moisture from the food which leaves it shelf stable up to 25 years. However, it has to be stored properly to be able to last that long. Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers from @WallabyGoods are made to do exactly that! No more worry that your foods won’t last long. Sealed up properly they will be safe and protected. When you’re ready to reconstitute you can just add boiling water right to the bag. Making it really easy with no clean up. Check out Wallaby Goods for all your long term food storage needs! Comment “MYLAR” and I”ll send you the link and a discount code so you can get started with preserving your harvests today!

See how these work together? 🤯 🌱 Your plants won’t grow (well) when planted at the wrong times- If you’re planting summer crops in spring it will be too cold and they may not survive. Planting cool weather crops in the heat of summer also means they won’t survive. Knowing the plants needs with your weather is key.

🌱 You can’t produce food without soil feeding it. Just like you can’t grow “big and strong” without food, neither can you plants. Healthy, nutrient dense soil = healthy, nutrient plants. 🌱 When you don’t have a plan for your garden then you’re going to be stressed and overwhelmed. If you want to grow a garden that utilizes the whole growing season and can grow a lot of food you have to know what you’re planting and when. 🔸 These principles are easy to learn and we break them down inside our online course. With lessons all about these topics and so much more you’ll be gardening like a pro in no time with correct gardening principles at your fingertips. 👉🏼 Comment “TEG” and I’ll DM you the link!
