Today, Stuffies For Sissy donated 160 stuffed animals to Seabrook PD, in loving memory of Denise. She has been gone far longer than she was here, but hopefully what we do in her memory will bring awareness and comfort to other children who need it.

Denise, my best friend's sister, was murdered by her mother about a month after she turned 11. This year will be 31 years since her death.
In an effort to try to celebrate her life as much as she mourns her loss, we have chosen to celebrate her birthday by collecting new and nearly new stuffed animals for the local police and social workers to have handy on domestic violence calls. Last year was our first year, and the officer we handed them off to cried and thanked us. He said most of the officers buy them out of pocket themselves.
We are starting earlier this year, with the hope that we can supply more than one area. Please feel free to share this post or use it as a safety conversation starter with your child.
We will pick up donations in the Houston area, one of us is pretty regularly anywhere between Galveston and Conroe. I can also provide a mailing address, if anyone wants to ship them instead. This would be a great project for a Scout Troop. We are more than willing to come talk to your group about safety, recovery, and life after abuse and will schedule time to do that if requested.
