According to Ayurveda, our eyes, being a hot/pitta organ, can get strained and fatigued, especially as summer draws to a close and heat accumulates. 🌡️

Ayurveda offers soothing remedies like ghee for balancing pitta and refreshing eye washes to moisturize and clear excess heat. 🍃 Plus, incorporating herbs like Amala and Triphala internally can support digestion and overall well-being. 🌿

The most effective way to build internal (emotional, mental, physical, spiritual) harmony is to connect with the rhythms in nature.

Attune to the phases of the moon and offer your internal rhythms a space to pause, breath, self reflect/self inquiry, and check in with the person that you really want to be.

What are these lunar phases?

Dark Moon: Emotional Nadir. A time when the moon is completely dark. A day before the New Moon. During this phase the moon calls us to rest, withdraw, and self- inquiry. Vata is at its peak.

New Moon: The first day of the new moon cycle. The moon is dark, and almost invisible in the sky. During this phase we are called to embrace spaciousness, set intentions & focus. A time when vata has just peaked.

First Quarter (Waxing Moon): A period between the new moon and full moon. As the moonlight is increasing so is our energy. During this phase re-establish your intentions, keep watering the seeds planted in the new moon. Turn outward.

Full Moon: The moon is entirely illuminated and visible in the sky (if it’s not behind the clouds). During this phase the energy is activated and at its peak. A time to take action, collaborate, and celebrate your intentions & manifestations.

Last Quarter (Waning Moon): After the peak of the full moon, the moon starts fading into the dark moon. A time to slow down, release, turn inward.

Join our Moon Circles! We gather during the Dark Moon & Full Moon nearly every month, delving into the moon’s energy through ancient wisdom. Experience insights from Ayurveda, Ta**ra, Yoga, ancestral knowledge, and western sciences to help you reconnect with the version of your-Self you seek.

First Circle: January 11th @7:30pm EST. 🔗Link in bio.

🌚In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, the concept of the dark moon is intricately linked to the lunar cycle & its influence on the human body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda recognizes the profound connection between the natural rhythms of the universe and the internal rhythms of the human body. According to Ayurvedic principles, the moon has a significant impact on the doshas, which are the fundamental energies that govern various physiological and psychological processes in the body.

The dark moon refers to the period when the moon is not visible in the night sky, commonly known as the new moon phase. In Ayurveda, this phase is associated with a subtle, transformative energy. This period is considered highly auspicious for activities related to self-reflection, cleansing, and renewal.

🌞Summer solstice is when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky & for a moment it stands still before taking way to the southern hemisphere. This day is the longest day of the year & in many ancient traditions communities stood & watched the sun transition & honor her wisdom. In the Mayan tradition, the ancestors gathered to build ceremony for spiritual initiation & change.

🌞The summer is a time of expansion, mobility, & luminosity. In this season, the fire element takes charge with the water element as its assistant. In Ayurveda it is considered the Pitta season.

🌞Depending on your constitution this time of year might be the fire that you need to move things forward or this might be a time that you start off motivated & then burn out half way through the summer, and loose your natural harmony.

🌞This time of year, when the fire element is at its highest, can be a transformational time to harvest the inevitable change of expansion, activation & maximization of energy. In this celebration, we will learn to balance our body, mind & energetics for the summer, accessing the brighter parts of us to feel radiant w/out burning out.

🌞This sacred ceremony & ritual will be a guide you can come back to all summer to reconnect to your inner Sacbé (a Mayan white path) to align with the 5 elements of nature through the path of purification, building, and expansion.

Through this 3 hour program, you will receive:

- Purification techniques
- Pranayama practice
- Meditation practice to calm the mind
- Ayurveda summer rituals
- Mayan at home fire ceremony

If you can’t join us live, this will be available to you with surprise resources!

The Process & Pathway of Disease - Ayurveda

Sampratpi & Vyadhi Marga

Understanding the process of disease can help us understand & identify symptoms at an early stage of discomfort.

➡️Through the pathway of disease (Vyadhi Marga), there is the inner pathway through the digestive system (Abhyantara Marga), a pathway with:
Stage 1: Accumulation
Stage 2: Provocation
External factors (diet, climate, & lifestyle) start affecting our inner body.

➡️As disease continues, we start seeing symptoms in outer pathways through the lymphatic & circulatory systems (Ba(a)hya Marga). In this pathway:
Stage 3: Spread
Even through we see symptoms & signs in our external body, we decide to indulge in factors that aggravate the dosha.

➡️If disease progresses, it enters into the deep tissue & organ pathways (Madhyama Marga), and in this pathway we have:
Stage 4: Desposition / Localization
Stage 5: Manifestation
Stage 6: Destruction
In these stages, the Doshas are now affecting & impacting the function & form of the tissues (dhauts). Showing up as chronic or deeply developed disease.

✨✨There is one more stage that can be implemented into this process and that is, PURIFICATION!

According to Ayurveda, there are practices & natural medicine that can often reduce symptoms, get to the root cause of disease & be freed from the manifestation of disease.

Start by observing your body & how external factors (diet, climate, lifestyle) impact you. If you are at a place that you need guidance & support work with an Ayurvedic Coach that can shine light to areas in your life that need a change.

If the above information feels obvious or that it makes sense to you, that’s a great sign that you’re listening to your intuitive body.

The list above are only a fraction of some of the foods in the aggravating kapha category. ⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda is that “like increases like” and “opposites balance” Think of kapha’s qualities to help identify if the food you’re eating are aggravating or not.

❌Avoid GRAINS that are excessively heavy, moist, or dense.
⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda for pacifying kapha, is to limit the grain quantity & add more veggies /legumes to your meals.

❌Avoid OILS in your cooking if possible, try steaming, boiling instead, but if oils is your thing in cooking keep your cooking under the pacifying oils for kapha.
⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda for kapha is that oils are already heavy & dense, so feeling excess kapha stay close to lighter oils.

❌Avoid SPICES. Salt!
⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda about kapha & spices is that most spices will be great for kapha! You want well-spice your foods specially through the pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes.

❌Avoid FRUITS that are super sweet or sour, feel too watery, dense, or heavy.
⚜️A golden rule of Ayurveda is to have fruits on their own. Enjoy them as they’re totally, preferably between meals.

❌Avoid VEGGIES that feel heavy, oily, watery, or dense.
⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda is to cook all your vegetables, it makes it easier for your body to digest.

❌Avoid SEEDS if experiencing excess kapha. Seeds tempt to be heavy, dense, & oily.
⚜️A golden rule in Ayurveda, if you do consume seeds, keep it in the pacifying category for kapha & make sure that it’s in small quantities & in occasion.

25/04/2023

If your Kapha has been out of balance this season, start implementing some of these foods into your daily consumption. Kapha is a heavy, slow, and dense dosha that is best pacified with light, well-spiced & easy to digest foods.

⛰️To pacify Kapha bring pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes that will help encourage your kapha signs to move.

Uttara, has multiple meanings, as many words in Sanskrit do. Some of Uttara’s translations are seen above. My favorite meaning is “infinite void”, which one is yours? Let me know in the comments…

Our womb has big power & personality. One of its big powers is that it digests like any other organ in your body, and it also absorbs & detoxifies. The womb (if you are a bleeding woman) purifies your body every month, and when you connect to it’s creativity & sexuality you uphold a great power (this can be done even for non-bleeding women).

“Wise women & wounded creatures” - Katie Silcox

If your relationship with your womb has been one of trauma or non-existing, this can be an opportunity for you to reconnect to that wisdom you already inherit. Honor your menstrual cycle with the lunar cycle, and if you aren’t menstruating 🩸anymore connect with the moon cycle.

Use the wisdom of the Nitya’s to guide you through this natural rhythm.

🩸New moon: detox, purification, emotional release
🩸 Waxing moon: gathering strength, prana (energy) rebuilding, rejuvenation
🩸 Full moon: highest immunity, celebrate, ceremony
🩸 Waning moon: cleaning, moving inward, moving

“Because yoga is not fixed. Yoga is creation. I know the way that you teach will be different from the way I teach, and the way I teach is different from the way my father taught. We all have different experiences, different backgrounds, different perspectives on yoga and why it is important for us.
So it is not a surprise that different people find different things through the same yoga teaching. Even in our own yoga institution different teachers will teach in different ways according to their own perspective and priorities and interests in yoga. The Yoga Sutra says that each person gets different things from the same teaching based on his or her own perspective. There is nothing wrong with this. This is how it is.” - T.K.V. Desikachar

You might have that feeling where your body is asking you for a detox. 🦠

Sometimes you just know, the feeling is there! Sometimes we need to be put aware of the symptoms & signs that are bodies are ready for a detox.

💚You might consciously or unconsciously know that you have been taking in toxins, and let’s face it, even with the “best” diets 🧐 out there we are taking in toxins from the few drinks we’ve had these past few months, the candles we smell, the cloths we wear, the products we use, the the air outside. All this to say, not to alarm 😵‍💫you, but to make you aware & acknowledging that we are living in modern times. 🫣

🌿Ayurveda is very wise & knows that our body is very intelligent & intuitive where it detoxifies many of the toxins (ama) that we consume (through our minds, body, & spirit). BUT there are many things that don’t get processed

&

✳️WHAT happens to the accumulation of unprocessed toxins?

Well, we store them in our body & then it starts manifesting into symptoms & unpleasant experiences in our systems.

🧃AND we want to experience PLEASURE, JOY, VITAL ENERGY! But to feel all that we need space in our body to make room for all that JUICINESS.

A cleanse, an Ayurvedic cleanse offers this gentle (but transformational & profound) detoxification process that we all can use. AND it provides rejuvenation, so we don’t feel depleted after the active phase.

If you feel ready for an Ayurvedic Cleanse, read about it, learn how you can do a safe at-home cleanse. If you rather follow an Ayurveda Wellness Coach or Practitioner look for guided Ayurvedic Cleanses happening in the Spring & Fall.

🌞SUNREY WELLNESS will be hosting a Fall 2023 Ayurvedic Cleanse!

Kapha the elemental constitution of earth + water.

What side of Kapha are you in? Even if your constitution is made more of Vata or Pitta, we all have all three doshas to some percent. Taking a look at when Kapha is in balance or out of balance can give us an understanding where our bodies are & adjust our actions during the day to find a balanced dosha.

Photos from Sunrey Wellness's post 15/02/2023

Kapha dosha is the elemental composition of earth & water⛰️ 🌊
looking in the body as stability & security.

BUT, when Kapha dosha is imbalanced in the mind it can cause feeling lethargic, sluggish, & unmotivated.

“Too much stability leads to congestion, stagnation, or feeling stuck in life.”

To support Kapha in the Kapha season & when we have excess Kapha in the mind & body, we need to move! So try these practices to move stagnated energy & start feeling vibrate again.

🌞Include more pungent, bitter, & astringent tastes to your foods. This is will support your gut & from you feeling low in energy. It will warm, dry (the mucus), & stimulate your digestion. 🥘

🌞Take a walk & practice gratitude daily. Going outside even if it’s cold, will help move your Kapha dosha. Take at least a 15 minute walk outside & appreciate the good things in life.
🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🏾🚶🏿‍♂️

🌞Listen to fun update music. Music is a great medicine for the soul. Music creates activity & heat in the body, & that’s what we need when feeling an upsurge of Kapha. Play music that makes you dance in the morning between 6-10am. 🎶🪘

Let me know in the comments, do you feel reflected with the kasha dosha? Which practice will you give it a try?
