July Dump but make it last year 🥹 (wedding advice)

We still can’t believe a year has gone by since the most magical moment of our lives in Oaxaca Mexico. Our wedding was something out of a 3 day fairytale and here are a few things we wouldn’t change and why 🫶🏽

1: Eloping for $100: We eloped 3 years prior during the pandemic, it was just the two of us and we were absolutely BROKE after buying our house a week before (we didn’t even have rings 😅) but we married for us and no one else

2: All Cash Wedding: promising our love for each other isn’t worth going into debt. It was critical for us to pay in all cash and not go a penny over our budget.. that way, once the wedding was over, we had no financial stresses after.

3: No People Pleasing: We only invited people out of love and not “obligation” and that goes for family and friends. Also, weddings can bring out the best and worst in people and it’s okay to un-invite someone who no longer aligns with your love and boundaries.

4: Roll With It: No wedding is perfect, even ours had some hiccups 😅 but it’s important to just keep the love train going and not sweat the things that are out of ur control. If you can pivot well during ur big day, you can pivot well during your marriage💕

For many of us, the option to feel safe, seen, and accepted doesn’t exist. The loneliness of not feeling welcomed as a q***r poc hits differently, so we made it our mission to create a movement that embodies Community, Q***rness, and our Culture. is not just a party.. it’s church, it’s a safe space to just be and like Jay said… “it’s bigger than us”.

When we first started dating we always talked about how fun it would be to attend NYC Pride together one day. It’s such a historic place to celebrate how far LGBTQ+ rights have come (stonewall riots, Marsha P. Johnson, Audrey Lorde to name a few)

5 years later and we FINALLY get to cross this one off our bucket list but even better, we get to celebrate with our grassroots movement and the community we’ve built together 🫶🏽🏳️‍🌈💕 representation matters and we’re ready to dance, cry, and celebrate who we are, who we love, and why we need to continue to take up space 🫶🏽

Your partner is going to p**s you off… what should you do?

Okay babes, I know it’s not easy to admit, but yes, the person you LOVE so fricken much will do something to upset you at some point. Let us be the ones to remind you that it’s 100% NORMAL. You are two individual beings with two completely different brains made of different memories, traumas, and experiences.

So, on the days you don’t see eye to eye, here are a few things that help us:

1. Don’t assume the worst from your partner. Our first reaction shouldn’t be, “You did X on purpose to make me mad.”

2. Ask more questions. Sometimes your partner will do things thinking they’re helping. 🫣 In moments like this, try to understand their thought process to see where and when you got on the wrong page and talk about how you can avoid this moving forward.

3. Remember that your partner can’t read your mind. (ONE MORE TIME) your partner CAN’T read your mind, so faulting them for something you didn’t communicate isn’t fair.

4. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, so give yourself and your partner space and grace to do so. When in doubt, ask yourself, if I made this same mistake, how would I want to be treated?

Here’s why this birthday was one of my favorites ♊️🎂

As someone who is a social-introvert, I love connecting and meeting new people but I also LOOOOVE snuggling inside Jay’s arms and watching some true crime documentary 🥰 but lately our lives have been all gas no breaks with no resting in the middle and the social side was definitely outweighing the introvert side. So without even having to ask, my Pisces already knew what to plan and she perfectly executed the ultimate 1x1 birthday 🎂 every detail was thought out from the hotel, spa, dinner, salon, and yes even the 24hour true crime channel that would be playing on our hotel tv. 🥹 And in true Jay fashion, if we’re not going to throw a party then our hotel room is going to feel like a party, even if it’s just the two of us. I loved every moment of this birthday and it was everything I wanted and needed.

10/10 recommend a staycation for anybody who’s love language is also quality time 💕

My wife is not your average le***an 🌈😅

At 16 Jay’s family banished her to a different country because she was a Le***an. Inevitably, she was given the option to come back to America but only if she was “straight”. As a frightened teenager I’m sure many of us would have played a role to come home but that’s not Jay. She knew with every piece of her soul who she was and no one was ever going to take that away from her.

It takes a lot of confidence to know exactly who you are and even more courage to unapologetically share it with the world. You see, Jay didn’t let this traumatic experience break her, instead she created , a space for all q***rs to come together and feel the love and acceptance most of us never got from our families. She still moves with the same Pink, White, and Orange fire that’s been burning since she was 16 and I couldn’t be more proud 💖🤍🧡

How to calm your partner’s anxiety during an argument. 😔

Eden here 👋🏽 I am the anxious partner. Before my mom passed from cancer I was a strong independent person and didn’t care for when people would come in and out of my life. Losing my mom was the first time I experienced loss and that fear slowly turned into having abandonment issues.

Working through my anxiety in therapy and with Jay, has been one of my biggest challenges in our relationship and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. Over time, Jay has developed quite the tools for lowering my anxiety and I hope sharing some of her phrases below can help anyone in need of adding a few more communication tools in their toolbox.

1. “Even though we’re upset right now, I’m still into you and this relationship.”

2. “I’m feeling triggered and I don’t want to make this situation worse. I’m going to walk for an hour to clear my thoughts and we can come back to this conversation”

3. “I’m sharing what’s triggering me not to push you away but to keep my commitment to growing our healthy relationship”

4. “I know this conversation isn’t over but it’s getting late and I can’t communicate my best when I’m tired. Let’s get some rest and talk in the morning when we’re clear headed. I love you.”

The small things matter 🍂

I never realized how important small gestures are in a relationship until I met Eden… it’s those little moments of support and consideration, like walking the dog together, supporting the passion projects, making her coffee every morning that can make a big difference in happiness and connection between partners. Big things build structure, little things fill in the gap. Building a foundation through both big and small gestures is key to a long and successful relationship. Keep nurturing those everyday moments of care and appreciation! 🫶🏽

When we met each other, neither one of us had been in a healthy relationship before but we knew we had to figure it out if we wanted to make this work. I’m not going to lie and say the first year of our relationship was easy bc it was far from it. I was avoidant and Eden was very stubborn but these 3 things really helped us break cycles together.

1. Realizing we’re both on the same team and that we have to fight for each other instead of against each other. 🥊

2. Giving each other the space to grow and become the best version of ourselves. 🌱

3. Creating safe space to be vulnerable with each other is key to a long and healthy relationship 🔑

4 Octobers later and I’m still FALLing for her 🍁 😉

Ever since I first met Jay, she told me how much she absolutely loves October… well more than loves, she’s a bit obsessed. 4 years later and I still get excited to see her light up like a jack-o-lantern the closer we get to Halloween. Her passion for all things spooky is just one of the many beautiful things I adore about her. Annnd hopefully if all goes well with IVF our Octobers will start to look a little different next year and Jay will have to start planning 3 costume ideas instead of two.🤞🏾
