Minnesota Street Project is pleased to present 'Dear Photographs' by Virtual Resident Rachel Liu (.m.liu). The website is an interactive journey through Liu’s photos of her grandfather, who died when she was very young. The viewer is invited to manipulate, expand, rotate, and probe various images, learning more about the subject but never gaining a full picture. Look for yourself at dearphotographs.com, or visit our link in bio.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 2, 3-4 pm in the Lounge for a conversation with Rachel Liu and curator Corey Keller (). The two will discuss Liu's work with archival images and her inspiration behind 'Dear Photographs.'

In conjunction with 'Dear Photographs,' Liu created an in collaboration with Sun Night Editions (.ed) in Oakland. The signed, limited-edition print will be available at the talk and at the Project’s online shop.

Repost from

Rachel Liu (.m.liu), our current Virtual Resident, engages the paradoxical nature of photographs. With the capacity to be both factual and fictitious, forthcoming and withholding, photographs are often charged by their dualities. For her upcoming project with us, to debut in October, Liu explores these contradictions and simultaneities through photographs of her late grandfather. Stay tuned for more on Liu's work and residency throughout the coming month. To learn more about her previous projects, visit rachelliu.com.

Many thanks to Minnesota Street Project] for the invitation 🙏 The project will debut in October.
Repost from Minnesota Street Project]

Minnesota Street Project is proud to welcome Rachel Liu as our August-September Virtual Resident! Rachel Liu (.m.liu) is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily with photography, alternative processes, and mixed media. Her work examines the dichotomy between photography’s indexical and evidentiary nature, and its resistance and limitation to be considered credible documents. This inherent paradoxical nature of the medium has informed much of her practice. Liu’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. Her works have been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, Photography of China, Fortune, and LensCulture. Liu lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stay tuned for more on Liu's work with us in the coming weeks!

Apply to FORECAST 2021 ! Great exhibition and award opportunity :-) Repost from

Rachel Liu (.m.liu) was one of the exhibiting artists in SF Camerawork’s 2018 FORECAST show. Rachel is a multidisciplinary artist based in the SF Bay Area. She was selected for work from her ongoing project “Remember Me Like This” inspired by a collection of her own personal family photographs.

“I felt incredibly fortunate to have chosen for the FORECAST show back in 2018 when my project was still at its infancy stage. Having received that recognition so early on really encouraged and motivated me to keep on going, to push myself harder and to dig deep. Since 2018, my project has involved both conceptually and visually. Currently, I am in the process of wrapping up this project, and also have been experimenting with ways to present this series to create both an intimate and dynamic viewing experience.”

Works from “Remember Me Like This” have been collected by both private and institutional collectors, published in The New Yorker, and most recently published in the German Foundation Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung’s latest publication, “ABOUT US. Young Photography in China.”

“3 Pieces of Charmin🧸🧸🧸, 12.5 inches”. Counting toilet paper by pieces now, not rolls. There’s a famous line from a T.S. Eliot’s poem: “I have measured out my life in coffee spoons.” It’s been echoing in my mind lately as resources become scarce and dwindles.
