Pyometra is a bacterial infection of the uterus. It affects intact female animals. There are two types of pyometra that can affect cats, these are open and closed. ⬛ The infection can be severe, uncontrolled inflammation also turns into a life-threatening case. ⬛Pyometra is a medical emergency and the usual treatment is surgery (ovariohysterectomy) In this case, the cat was stabilized before the surgery was done. Blood tests were also run before the procedure. ⬛The most common clinical signs in dogs and cats are: depression lethargy anorexia repetitive water intake pale mucous membranes vaginal discharge with pus or blood Other signs: vomiting, excessive urination. 🔴The best prevention for pyometra is spaying which removes the hormones that stimulates the heat cycle. ⭕️The pet has already been returned for a follow up, immunization and is doing very well.
