Where does your trust lie?

Trust is a serious issue to the Lord. He invites us to “Trust in the Lord” with all our hearts (Proverbs 3:5).

Isaiah 2:22 is also a wonderful reminder to always place your trust in the Lord rather than man-“ Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils.
Why hold them in esteem?”
We are called to trust in the Creator verses mere humans who are limited to the frailty of breath in their nostrils!

King David wrote in Psalm 146:3, “Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.” He says in Psalm 121:1-2, “ I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”

Jeremiah 17:5 warns us, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD.’”

Some of us may think trust is not a serious issue to the Lord? Jeremiah 17:5 makes it clear that God expects our trust to be in Him and not mankind. He goes on to say that the consequence for trusting in mankind is that our hearts will turn away from the Lord.

It is easy to look to others for strength and help, in a fallen world that is so divided. We seek people’s advice, worse we seek their approval, and all the while, we fail to look to the Lord for these things that only he can provide.

Friends, return to the Lord! May we all join King David, Isaiah and Jeremiah in looking to the Lord and not ourself or others. God is the only one who can help you. Governments can’t save you. Presidential candidates can’t save you. Only God will help you once you stop trusting in man and begin looking to Him!

When we feel lost or stuck in the desert of life, God promises to create something new - a pathway, a river - that will lead us in the right direction. Where there is no clear path forward, God creates one. When there is no relief or refreshment, God provides it.

Life can be quite the adventure, a series of revolving doors and different pathways we can chose to walk on, and sometimes it feels like it's all just spinning out of control. Doors close. Our pathways become blocked, some pathways may even disappear altogether.
But the truth is, God has an extraordinary plan for each of us and is opening doors and clearing pathways we never even imagined if we love Him and put our faith in Him.

19 “See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
20 The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise. “- Isaiah 43:19-21

The heavens declare the glory of God
According to King David, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1-2)

When we read these words, we naturally think of the distant heavens: sun and moon, stars and galaxies. But they point just as surely to the nearer heavens: clouds and snow and northern lights.
