The cable hip abduction 24/09/2023

The cable hip abduction is a strength training exercise that targets the hip abductors, which are muscles responsible for moving your legs away from the midline of your body. Here’s how you can perform this exercise12:

Attach an ankle strap (if one is not available, a single handle may suffice) to the low pulley of a cable pulley machine and set your desired weight on the stack1.

Attach the ankle strap to your left ankle and stand up straight with your feet close together with your right foot closest to the machine1.

You can use your right arm to hold onto the machine for stability1.

Begin the movement by lifting your left leg straight out to your side as high as comfortably possible1.

Pause for a moment and then slowly lower your leg back to the starting position1.

Repeat for the desired amount of reps1.

Turn around, attach the strap to your right ankle and then repeat with your right leg1.

Remember to stand up straight and focus on moving only at the hip. Keep your torso as still as possible1. You can eventually begin to increase the range of motion by standing further and further away from the machine1. This will require a good deal of balance as you won’t be able to hold onto the machine1.

Start slowly: Plan to start slowly and boost your activity level gradually unless you are already exercising frequently and vigorously2.

Listen to your body: Hold off on exercise when you’re sick or feeling very fatigued2.

Choose the right clothes and shoes: Choose clothes and shoes designed for your type of exercise2.

Maintain good form: For strength training, good form is essential. Initially use no weight, or very light weights, when learning the exercises2.

Stay hydrated: For most people, simply drinking plenty of water is sufficient2.
