Potter Community:
As our learning community continues to navigate one of the most challenging times in the history of education, we recognize that stress levels throughout East Liverpool City School District are an area of concern. It is clear that TIME is the resource all of us need right now. Time to rest and renew.
With that in mind, the district will be closed beginning Tuesday, November 23rd through the entire week of Thanksgiving (November 23 2021- November 26, 2021).
We will not make up this day.
First day back to class will be Monday, November 29th.
Our Board of Education and Administration care deeply about the mental wellbeing of our learning community. Our students, faculty, staff, and parents/guardians have worked tirelessly to persevere in the face of unthinkable challenges.
The extended break will give all of us an opportunity to focus on self-care and family.
I wholeheartedly believe we will emerge from the break a stronger, healthier, and more committed learning community.
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Ludwig
Superintendent

July 29, 2021
Dear Potter Families and Community Members:
This morning, the superintendents from all school districts within Columbiana County met with the Health Department. We will continue to address the whole health of all our students to lower the diseases, especially flu and cold. We will continue to have nurses located at each of our buildings. We will continue to have mitigation strategies and aggressive cleaning schedules in place.
Here are the latest updates and latest Covid 19 protocols for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.
Will masks be required?
Masks will continue to be strongly encouraged for all students and staff for preschool – 12th grade. This is not a requirement, but a scientific best practice encouraged by our leading health experts.
Will masks be required on a school bus?
Yes. Masking is required federally on all public transportation, including public school buses. This is a federal requirement.
Will East Liverpool City Schools be in person this fall?
Yes. We will offer a five-day, full day schedule from preschool through 12th grade.
Will ELCSD offer a virtual option?
Yes. We will offer a teacher led, live virtual option for qualifying students. Interested families should contact their building secretary and set up a meeting with the principal to discuss this option.
Will my child be required to get the COVID 19 vaccine to attend school?
No. The COVID 19 vaccine is not listed on the Ohio School Required Vaccination List. But we do strongly encourage students ages 12 and up to receive the shot. We will be hosting a community clinic for students, staff, and community members at the ELHS Auditorium on August 3rd from 12-1pm. The East Liverpool Health Department will administer the Pfizer vaccine with the second dose on August 24th. Please contact Ms. Tenney at the high school office to register at 330-386-8750.
Will you separate students who are vaccinated from unvaccinated students?
No
Will contact tracing continue?
Yes. Contract tracing will still occur. A revised process will be released to school nurses and administrators in the coming weeks. We will communicate this process accordingly.
Will student athletes need to be tested for Covid 19 to participate?
No, but the district reserves the right to restrict participation in the instance of a positive case or someone who is determined to be a close contact of a positive case.
Will any student need to be tested for Covid 19 to attend school?
No. Getting testing is a parent/guardian choice. The district does encourage students to get tested if exposed to Covid 19 or become symptomatic.
We are in the midst of planning for some fun activities to usher in the 2021-2022 school year as we will be having a week’s worth of back-to-school enrichment activities beginning on Tuesday, August 17th – Please watch our district webpage and social media pages as the details come together.
I hope this provides you with clarification as you begin to plan for the fall. We are excited to see our Potters back in the buildings on Wednesday, August 25th!
Best regards,
Jonathan Ludwig, Superintendent

Today I was asked to be the "Celebrity Reader" for Ms. Hoppel’s 4th grade class (Theo's Class).
I read a book about hibernation and I briefly told them about what I do as a School Board Member.
My awesome wife brought me dinner and also the thank you cards that were written by the North Elementary School students. I was truly honored to be asked to read to the students but I was humbled after reading the thank you cards from the students thanking me for being on the board.
This truly made my day.
