Merci

ℹ️ There is a lot of information about composting on the internet, you’ll find lots of tuto with videos or websites. ⠀

➡️ We recommend who will guide you quickly and easily to start a small composting on your balcony or even with only a small container in your kitchen that you can give every week to a local community garden. 🌳⠀

Marianne was used to seeing her grandma do some composting in the back of her garden but what about composting in a flat? Does it smell? Does it take lots of place? She tried a few things before settling for this simple solution: a small kitchen container that she can use for her own plants and give the rest to a locale association. ⠀

The hardest was actually to find the association which was willing to take her compost. Then she learned by mistake what to put inside. She got mad at some friends who put some bread or some meat that were responsible for some flies and bad smell but that was it. Now it’s tested and approved and it felt so good to see the ordinary trash bin smaller and smaller everyday.⠀

Covid-19 disease is an emerging infectious disease of the viral zoonosis type. 🦠 ⠀

💡 A zoonosis is a disease transmitted from animals to humans. According to the , about 60% of human infectious diseases are zoonoses. ⠀

😷 An emerging disease is a new infection. They are not new (plague, syphilis ...) but in the last century, it has been increasing rapidly (they has been multiplied by almost 4 in 50 years): HIV, Avian Flu, SRAS, Ebola virus... About 75% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonoses. ⠀

According to the UN Environment Programme, in “UNEP Frontiers 2016 Report” updated with Covid-19, Zoonoses are all linked to human activity. 🏭 ⠀

Indeed, factors increasing the risk of zoonoses are especially : ⠀
- The intensified agriculture or livestock farming. For example, the emergence of avian flu was linked to intensive poultry farming. 🐓⠀
- Changes in the environment (land use change and climate change). For example, bat-associated viruses, such as Ebola, most likely emerged due to the loss of bat habitat from deforestation and agricultural expansion. 🦇🌳⠀
- Reduction of biodiversity which favors particular hosts, vectors and pathogens. 🦒⠀

✊ In order to protect ourselves from these diseases,...⠀
- Let's take, together, individual and collective measures to reduce these aggravating factors;⠀
- Let’s change how we consume, especially meat;⠀
- Let’s fight (and vote) for sustainable management of nature, biodiversity and the environment; ⠀
- Let’s reduce and manage our dangerous wastes… ⠀

🌍 There are so many ways we can reduce our impact on the planet as individuals and groups. ⠀

🧼 This recipe is from and it's website “MonPtitPote", an eco-place in Géronde (France).⠀
Household products are full of chemicals and come in a lot of packaging. Marianne decided to try this recipe to reduce her the amount of single use packaging and use natural and healthy ingredients. 💁🏼‍♀️ ⠀

💧 Chemicals will end up in the water... In big cities we are thousands and thousands of people using these chemicals to wash our dishes, clothes, floors, bathrooms and so on! 🛁⠀

It's super easy and doesn't take much time. The important step is not to put too much water and compress the mixture as much as you can in the ice cube tray, after the foam has decreased. The tablets remain compact.⠀

How to reduce our ecological impact while having fun? 🌿⠀

⚠️ Disclaimer: this episode has been produced before the Covid-19 crisis. Back then, no one could have imagined that the events of the summer would be cancelled... ⠀
But it can open some new perspectives for the new world! 🌍⠀

Once we realize that our world is changing and that we can do something about it, everyone tends to change their own way. Cecile, for example, is not only implementing new habits at home but also speaking up about climate change during festivals, spreading the word about the principles of “leaving no trace”. Her commitment and her new way of life is slowly influencing her friends' way of life… like a snowball effect. ⠀

🔥 The “Leave No Trace” Principle of the Burning Man Festival is to have the community respecting the environment. They are committed to leaving no physical trace of their activities wherever they gather. They clean up after themselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when they found them. 🚮⠀

Eating meat releases as much greenhouse gas as transportation! 🚛⠀
This is due to the production of cereals to feed animals 🌾 (70% of agricultural land is used for that!), the transformation of animals into 🍖, the gastric fermentation of animals (gas released when they are stealing) 🐂, and manure 💩⠀

🏖 “If you’ve ever gone for a barefoot stroll in the sand only to wind up with a lipstick-stained cigarette butt between your toes, you’ll feel me on this one. They look small, but ci******es are the number-one piece of litter across the globe. They account for about a third of all litter in the U.S., and [...] in the U.K. people toss more than 1,200 metric tons of them each year.”⠀
So we learned with Umbra Grist. ⠀

🚬 Why is that a problem. 🤔⠀

Besides being gross to look at, cigarette butts leach heavy metals and other toxins into the surrounding environment and can poison curious animals and kids. ⠀
🌳 In addition, an estimated 200,000 hectares of forest and woodland are cut each year due to to***co growing. These are just a few of the issues listed by the World Health Organization. ⠀

💡 What do we need to do? 🤔⠀

If you smoke, you can take a small pocket ashtray with you. Anyone can contribute by spreading the word and request for a better butts collection strategy within cities. 🚮⠀

🌎 Permafrost is permanently frozen layers below the Earth’s surface found in Arctic regions. It is made of soil, gravel and snas bound together by ice. ❄️⠀

The rapid melt and lack of carbon absorption turn the sawths of Arctic tundra into a hotbed for CO2 emissions. Carbon is made of ancient vegetation and soil which have been frozen for millennia. 🦕⠀

🧪 Scientists estimate that 1500 billion tons of carbon are stored in the world’s permafrost (twice more than the amount found in the atmosphere). ⠀
75 scientists in 12 countries published study in Nature Climate Change; showing that the amount of carbon released by the melting permafrost is twice as high as they thought it would be and is outpacing the ability of tundra plants to absorb it. 📈⠀

⚠️ Why is that a problem? 🤔⠀

If global emissions remains static, the permafrost may release 41% more carbon by the end of the decade and will exacerbate climate change. 🌋⠀

💡 What do we need to do? 🤔⠀

We must reduce our carbon emissions! ⠀

🌊 Every year, 24 billions tons of plastic are produced by the 22 mediterranean countries. Among them, France is the biggest plastic producer: 4,5 billions tons of plastic were produced in 2016 (66,6kg / person). ⠀

🍬 600,000 tons ends up straight in the mediterranean sea... 🐬⠀

This is why the encourages all governments to take ambitious measures to reduce plastic production, to develop upcycling and to insure 100% of plastic recyclability. ♻️⠀

⚠️ Why is that a problem? 🤔⠀

Plastic in the ocean endangers the entire marine ecosystem ; floating toxic microplastics are often ingested by marine life, which we end up eating ourselves. 🐟⠀
Garbage in the ocean also ruins beautiful places like the mediterranean coast. If we want to continue enjoying it, we need to protect it! 🏖⠀

💡 What do we need to do? 🤔⠀

We must drastically reduce our plastic consumption, especially single use plastic! ⠀

⚡️ This increase in production capacity is mainly (84%) due to solar and wind energy. ☀️⠀
In total, the renewable energy generation capacity reaches 2 351 GW in 2018. Almost half of this production capacity comes from Hydropower: 1,172GW. 💧⠀
Additional details and information are available on the IRENA website.⠀

🔋 Why is this a great news? 🤔⠀

The primary source of energy is currently oil and fossil energy. 🛢🔋⠀
In 2017, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from burning fossil fuels for energy represented about 93% of total U.S. anthropogenic CO2 emissions. ⠀
So it is a good thing to reduce the use of fossil energy as it helps reduce CO2 emissions. 🌎⠀ ⠀

💡What can we do? 🤔⠀

First we have to reduce our energy consumption and then we have to encourage renewable energy. ⠀
A good starting point is to subscribe to a green energy supplier! ✅⠀

“An estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic waste flows into the ocean every year. That’s the equivalent of one dump truck full of plastic every minute, every hour, every day going into the ocean. ⠀
Ocean plastic doesn’t just pollute our beaches and coastlines; it also impacts more than 800 species of marine life.” ⠀
So we learned in the “Ocean Conservancy 2019 Report”.⠀

What do we need to do? We must drastically reduce our plastic consumption, especially single use plastic! How can we do this? Refuse single use plastic items in restaurants, reduce single use packaging, collect trash and spread the word.⠀

For example, try to collect one piece of garbage you see and put it in the trash. You can also get involved in Trashtag Challenge: users pick a place filled with litter, clean it up, and post before and after pictures.⠀

🌊 According to a study conducted by the World Economic Forum in 2016, about 32% of the annual global plastic production ends up in oceans. ⠀
Experts predict, if we do not do anything, that this number might double by 2050, which would mean having more plastic in the ocean than fish. 🐟🐠⠀

🗑 Why is that a problem? 🤔⠀

Garbage in the ocean endanger the entire marine ecosystem. ⠀
Several marine species are on the verge of extinction because of such type of ocean pollution. In addition, floating toxic microplastics are often ingested by marine life, which we end up ingesting ourselves. ⠀

🌍 “We are 7 billion people on the Earth and we are producing and growing food as we never did before. ⠀

However, it is not well distributed, everyday there are 805 million people starving. In fact around 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted every year. ⠀

We are living in a vicious circle made of increasing needs and demand, and we are losing the natural balance that has been ruling this planet since the first life forms.” So explained Clelia Carbonari.⠀

The issue is that over-extraction and overconsumption are resulting in pollution and eco-degradation. Market economy, mainly driven by cost, should include both the actual and future costs of pollution and eco-degradation to help conserve our collective home.⠀

🧺 How often we wash our clothes impact our environment in many ways: not only it requires a lot of water and energy, but it also releases chemicals (toxic materials contained in detergents) and microplastics (present in all synthetic fibres like polyester) in the water and in the air when you dry your clothes. 🌬⠀

The simplest way to cut back on your laundry's impact is to – duh! – just do less of it. Wearing your clothes more than once before tossing them in the dirty pile is the first step in greening your laundry habits. According to the United Nations Environment Program, you can reduce your consumption by 5 by wearing your clothes at least 3 times, washing them in cold water, air-drying and skipping ironing. 👚👕⠀
