Green Dish Delights
Here I am a married guy who does not how to cook. Share my journey as I teach myself to cook for my wife with some help from my friends!
Another delicious ravioli!
This is how you do spaghetti! She loves it with a nice medium red wine!
This is sweet, sour and spicy roast chicken. Perfect with some creamer potatoes and sweet corn.
This how I make chilies in 30 mins or less! Everyone that has tried asks me what’s in it? This it it! Not hard, quick and delicious! Any questions, just ask!
Tomorrow’s the day I reveal the secrets to my famous/ infamous chilie!
Someone asked me about the rice I use. I am a practical person! I am not fancy and rather cheap, so I use whatever I have at the time! This one tasted good and was easy to make.
Wanna know the ingredients to my caprese? Here they are!
Stuffed chicken as seen in previous posts, caprese and rice. As requested by my wife!
From beginning to end. This is my minced garlic and crushed black pepper stuffed chicken breast. It was a hit with her!
The making of the perfect steak pita. Very tender strip loin, green, red, orange bell peppers. White button mushrooms. Crushed red peppers, oregano and freshly ground black pepper. This is layered on a Greek pita with salsa. Everything topped with habanero blend of cheese. Baked to perfection.
The classic “Blackadar works” pepperoni, green and red peppers, mushrooms, bacon and ground beef.
My wife always enjoys this one. This is my version of mushroom and red bell pepper lasagna. I have added garlic and Parmesan bread with jalapeño cheese to go with it. She often enjoys a red wine that is not too dry to accompany it.
The secret to a good authentic Italian spaghetti sauce? No idea. This is my best guess and has had an excellent response from my wife as I get closer and closer. As you can see, fresh is the key. Onions, mushrooms, green and red bell peppers, and celery. For spice, crushed red pepper and and oregano. I also like freshly ground black pepper. All in a tomato base of your choice. Perfect sauce every time!
Well I had to give a baked calzone a try. In this this pizza dough, I put pepperoni, green pepper, mushrooms, ground beef with mozzarella, a mild pizza sauce, crushed red pepper and oregano. She really liked this one!
A new addition to the Green Dish Delight!
Another version of my classic baked spaghetti. This one is topped with jalapeño infused cheese. My wife really liked this one!
All good things must come to an end. I was on such a hot streak too! This is a grilled maple-chipotle pork tenderloin. It juicy and smelled great. Unfortunately the taste was just not there even with the help of my beef fried rice. My wife was not too fussy on this one. Time to start a new streak!
So in my ever lasting pursuit to make a great salad for my wife, try number 2. Mixed greens with red delicious apples, dried cranberries, and sliced blanched almonds. I added sliced breaded chicken. I dressed with a raspberry vingerette and topped with fresh ground Parmesan. She really liked this one!
Well this week my wife requested a salad. Not something I have done before, but let’s give it a try. I used romain and green lettuce with carrots and pod peas. I chopped some grilled chicken and added diced red delicious apples and some pecans It was then dressed with a raspberry vinegarette. I then topped it with fresh grated Parmesan cheese. She loves it so much I had to do it again the next day!
This was a request by my wife. It is my version of a chicken pita. I stir fried chicken with red and green bell peppers with olive oil, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper, and oregano. Some salsa and topped with cheese on a Lebanese pita. I cooked on a stone on the barbecue. One of my wife’s favourites!
Tonight for my wife’s dinner, I prepared beef filled tortellini. One of her favourites! I added green and red bell peppers along with diced yellow onion to add sweetness to offset the crushed red peppers and oregano in a tomato base. With this she will have a medium red wine to compliment the sauce. Hope she like this version!
So this time I went back to the BBQ stone fired pizza. This is my six topping pizza. What six topping you ask? Well because it has six toppings! In this case, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, mushroom, pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, sauce infused with crushed red pepper and oregano and of course mozzarella. This is all done on a Lebanese pita. See the before and after pictures! Give this one a try!
Well this Green Dish Delight is basic spaghetti with my own Bolognese sauce. It has a bit of ground beef with yellow onion and red bell peppers. The sauce is seasoned with crushed cayenne pepper, oregano, and fresh ground black pepper. It is baked with a mix of habanero and mozzarella cheeses to a slight brown. One of my wife’s favourites! She always approves of this one!
Well this week, I am off camping with the family and I did not bring my Green Dish to Delight you, however this may be better. Pizza on a Barbecue! Once again, sauce of your choice and toppings of your choice. This one, with dough prepared by my wife has Brothers pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, topped with cheese, bacon and ground beef and cooked in a stone on the barbecue. Cook until bubbling through cheese and with a nice thin, crisp crust. Anyone can do this one and my wife approves!
Difficult to make? No. Hard to find ingredients? No. Long to cook? No. Fancy? Also no. Guilty please definitely yes. Late night snack in five, that’s right, five minutes. Any bread you can find, any pizza sauce you can find, Brothers pepperoni, green pepper, mushrooms, oregano, crushed red pepper and my favourite habanero cheese. My wife approves and often asks for these! Sometimes the simplest things are the best things.
Well as usual, thought I would try something that I think my wife might like. Stuffed bell peppers with simple garlic bread. Darren, “what are they stuffed with, I heard the crowd chant loudly!” It is a mixture of ground beef, rice, the tops of the bell peppers chopped up, yellow onion, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper, oregano and a bit of pasta sauce. These are baked and topped with habanero cheese. Most importantly, my wife approves!
Just so you know, I will not buy anything from “specialty store” as I simply wouldn’t know what to buy! I buy everything from a local grocery store(s). This makes it real and everyone can actually do it. If you want know the exact brand of what I use, just ask!
This dish once again has garlic rice with grilled salmon with lemon, thyme, fresh ground pepper and salt. The other item is bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with chive cream cheese and habanero cheese and grilled. Very spicy, but my wife loved it!
Just so you know, no fancy photos, cameras or lighting, just real food made an untrained guy trying to make food for his wife. I just use my iPhone for the photos!
