There is this neighbor of mine who will never ask you for anything no matter how hungry he is. He borrows nothing and lives a very quiet life.

If you give to him, he will reject it. If you force him to collect it, it begins to look like you are trying to poison him or something suspicious is going on. That is how I feel sha. Not like it's what is going through his mind.

But he is a very friendly man.

I stopped seeing him when I moved out of the house.

During this period I returned to the family house and discovered he was still living in my compound. He had not parked yet. Same room. Same lifestyle. Always quiet and to himself.

I asked my dad what happened and why he had lost so much weight compared to the last time I had seen him. My dad told me the young man had lost his job and fallen ill. Though his rent has already expired, he allowed him to stay and hasn't asked him for rent for 5 months now because he knows his condition.

I felt pity for him.

I cooked yesterday. A very delicious meal and I felt I should give it a try again and share it with this neighbor of mine. I knew he would reject it if I gave him his separately. So I dished it in one plate, carried two drinks, and went to knock on his door.

When he opened and saw me.

I smiled.

"Uncle, I want to eat in your room."

He peeped outside. From left to right and looked at me.

"What happened to yours."

"Nothinb na. I just want to catch up na. E don tey."

He smiled and allowed me to come in.

His room was just there.

It looked like there was no sign of foodstuff in the room.

I asked him if he had a spoon and he said yes.

He gave me one.

Then I summoned courage and said to him.

"Uncle, I know you don't eat out. But today is a season of love. I want to share this food with you. That was why I brought it to your room. Biko don't say no."

He laughed.

"I expected it. I said it that this one was a setup."

He took an extra spoon.

I was happy.

I drew the food nearer to him.

He waited for me to take the first spoon of rice, then he began to eat with me. From the way he ate, I could tell he was hungry and loved the food.

So I asked him.

"How come you don't collect anything from anyone? No friends visit you. I don't see you eating out. Even when you cook you cook in here and eat in here."

He looked at me.

"You are right and very observant. My family was poisoned on Christmas day. All of us. 7 of us. They ate from the same bowl and died."

"And you survived."

"I was a baby then, waiting to suck from the tender breast of my mother. When I was told the story, of how my family died, I lost trust for humans. And I realized that the easiest way to end a man's life is through his stomach."

He took another scoop of the rice and drank water.

Then he said to me.

"In over 40 years of my life, you are the first person whose food I am eating. And it is because I am very hungry. And I know you won't try to harm me. You are good guy. But even if you will, this hunger might as well k**ll me and I will be gone anyway. So let me eat."

He laughed.

And continued eating.

Most people whose behavior we see as strange are simply brought about as a result of life lessons and bad experiences they've faced in the past. They get hurt once and guard themselves jealously.

So the police stormed an Akara joint at an area I do pass every morning to pick up a popular Akara seller.

I won't be mentioning the address depending on when the investigation is completed as I do not want to tarnish anyone's business without substantial proof.

Since I moved into the area last year, I have been wanting to buy from her. But the crowd I see there has kept me away. People say her Akara is the best and very sweet.

When you pass there between 7am-11am you will find a lot of people gathered and sitting. No matter how long it takes, no matter the time, people are ready to wait.

But not me abeg.

I just patronize other sellers who sell either at my junction or the junction before.

By afternoon, when I return, I find the place empty. I will see her or her girls either washing her pan or sweeping.

One day a fellow I met told me that the woman is an inspiration to many other women there. But she is cruel because she doesn't want other Akara sellers to shine or sell close to her.

Through selling Akara, she built a house. Through selling Akara she owns a big boutique in Terminus here in Jos. Through selling Akara she has two keke which she gives out on hire and gets returns daily.

I asked this fellow.

"This business should give her more money than Akara. She should retire and rest. Why is she still selling in the sun?"

He said he doesn't know.

I asked him why he said she was cruel and didn't allow others to shine.

He pointed to the Junction.

"Praises, can't you see she is the only one there? Anyone who comes to sell Akara. Even if it is the junction opposite hers, she will invite the police, pay them good money and they will send that person away. And if she can't use the police, she uses the boys in the area and it works 99.9% of the time."

I nodded in agreement.

Today she was picked up by the police. I passed and saw the crowd. I stopped to ask questions and this man I met told me the police found 15 used pads tied in a nylon bag and kept in her kitchen after receiving information that she uses her me**es to prepare Akara daily.

Then another woman who was standing close to me told another person that the police picked charms too.

I heard the news and I shouted.

I kept imagining I had ever eaten her Akara. I would have had sleepless nights. While the police were dragging her into the van, some boys were fighting for her to be left alone. While some were asking for her to be burnt alive.

The world is competitive. A lot of people do anything these days to make money. The economy is biting. The love for financial wealth has made humans desperate.

We can't control what we eat. We do not know how they are made.

But we have just one prayer.

What we do not know will not affect us or our lives. This is why we should pray at all times before we take anything into our mouths.

A man naturally gravitates towards where he is respected and treated like royalty, if he cannot get this at home, he will get it somewhere else.

Inside every man are two powerful personalities, a lion and a lamb. Be wise enough to use them. When used wisely, he can become a king waiting to reign or a demonic fool who can ruin everything. A woman is blessed with the power to call forth any of these personalities. When respect, meekness and humility are applied, the king within him emerges to protect, provide and care for her as a king will do. When you allow stubbornness and disobedience to dominate you, the demonic fool in him is unleashed, blinded by ego, this fool can ruin everything including himself without even realising it. It is your choice which of their personalities you chose to call forth.
Even when you are the bread winner, be submissive , you loss nothing but gains a lot. Resist every urge to lord t over him.

So I returned from work to find my wife on the bed shivering.

Unlike her who would come to welcome me and embrace me and dash me little kisses. She was covered in blankets shaking like a slaughtered chicken soaked in hot water.

I walked up to her and touched her forehead. I was scared. Her body wasn't hot. She was of normal temperature. I asked what the problem is and she told me she was sick.

I asked if she had taken any medications and she said no.

"Ah! And I was in the office all this while doing nothing and you could not call to tell me you were sick. Madam why now?"

"I thought you were busy." She muttered feebly.

"So what do I do now? What do you want?"

"Meat."

"Meat? Is meat medications."

"Praises just buy me meat. I don't care. Roasted, fried, grinded, I just need meat. Something I can chew and eat."

"What kind of animal meat do you want now."

"Any meat. Any meat." She coughed.

"I mean what kind of animal meat do you want? Do you need goat, cow, chicken, or suya."

"Chicken will do. Chicken meat."

I started wondering why my wife will want to eat chicken meat while she was shaking. Just before I left the room she called me back.

"Praises, please add it with one bottle of small stout. It is a little bit bitter and will help my taste."

I looked at her. She coughed. Started speaking in tongues.

I left.

I drove around Jos searching for any Chicken joint. After thirty minutes drive, I decided to go around West Of Mines in Jos. I got the chicken and small stout and drove back home speedily.

When I got home, my wife sat up. She collected the meat and drink and began to eat and lick my mouth.

"Ah! You don't look sick na. You are fine."

She didn't answer me.

"Babe, you are fine?"

"Ah! Is it your sickness? Are you my body? Is it not when you bought me meat and drink I became fine? When last did you buy me meat to eat? Every time you will carry file and sweaty body and come back home from work. You will forget to be romantic.
You will not even thank God that it is meat I want to eat today. See leave me alone o before I sick another one that will make you enter the kitchen and start pounding yam for me to eat. Your food is on the dining table."

This was how I watched as my wife yanked a huge chunk of chicken meat and was drinking small stout.

When it's time to deliver, your life is on the line. It's a 50/50 chance for you. You may live and you may die. But being the life-giver you are, you will choose the life of a new stranger over yours.🤦

Even if the process is not favorable to you. Either the pains of childbirth or surgery.😪

After it all, you still carry yourself up and continue life activities with bandages and pains. But what is miraculous about this all is the smile you put on your face while facing all this.🥰💕

Advice for Married Sisters!

"When you become a wife, once in a while, look at your husband's face when he is asleep. That is the person who has no blood relationship with you but keeps trying to love you.

Once in a while when your husband comes home from work or from his place of business, look at his face, kiss his hand. That is the hand that is working hard to find sustenance to provide you and your children.

Before the marriage contract he had no debt of gratitude to you. In fact, he has a debt of gratitude to his father and his mother. He chose you before he could repay all his parents' debt of gratitude.

Once in a while when you are alone with him, look at your husband, look at his face with affection and full of respect.

It's the face that's struggling out there, it's the face that's burning in the hot sun, it's the face that holds back the heat of the sun and sometimes ignores himself, ignores his own safety, only because of you and your children.

BUT WHY??? 😭😭😭

On this day, some time back, I had given two packs of female condoms to a young married woman to help in family planning.

It is wrong for me to do that without her husband's consent, yes; I was clouded by emotions.
She was 23 years old with 4 kids; all girls, the last being a few months old.

They lived in a shack; those houses, made from wood or condemned zinc. She was also my mums customer.

That evening, the husband, a security man, came to my mums shop with a machete, flung the condoms at me and called me a devil for trying to misled the wife.

I apologized sincerely and told him to understand where I was coming from but he only got angrier. I told him to space his children.
He said, "Na God dey give pikin!"
He said there was nothing like family planning in the bible.

I took my condoms back.
I'm looking at them as I write.

A few days later, she came to mums shop to ask for things on credit.
Mama refused to release anything to her.
"Since they want to have many children, they should have a means to provide for them" mama said.

Fast forward to some months later, she was heavily pregnant again, her last baby, just over a year old.
They were still living in that shack and buying things on credit.

When I asked her why she took in, she said the husband wanted a male child and threatened to marry another wife.

She gave birth at home. Twin girls.

They continued living in that condition.
She was either at the shop assisting mum to roast fish for sale(she then takes free foodstuff home) or, she's sweeping peoples compounds for a little sum.

She got pregnant again some 7 months ago and I felt terrible.
"Woman no be pikin!?" I screamed at her on Saturday, while we were roasting fish in the evening.

She said she wanted to try one more time.
"Aunty Fy, if na only one boy I born, my husband go happy, e go dey proud"

I shook my head and watched her moving sluggishly, dragging her big belly.
She was sick and I asked her to visit the hospital. I referred her to a doctor friend.

On Sunday, she crossed my mind and I decided to do something for her this Christmas season.

Yesterday, I bought a basket of local-foreign rice, a bottle of groundnut oil, some tin tomatoes and spices, some Okrika clothes for the kids, packaged them and said I'll give them to her when I come from work today.

I had come back from work, freshened up, took the polythene bag and dashed off.
My mama called me back and asked where I was heading to.

I told her.

Mumsi took the bag from my hand and told me to sit. I did.

Mumsi said, "Ifeomachukwu, Mama Chikamso don die! She die this morning. Them say na convulsion hol am, blood begin pour out from her nose and mouth"

My blood ran cold.
"What of the pikin?" I stuttered.

"When doctor comot am from the belle, e don d die, na girl"

My fingers started shaking. I felt small all of a sudden. My head became light. Somebody I saw on Saturday evening. Someone I joked and laughed with.

25 years old, 7 children and dead.
I went into my room silently and bawled.
Are girl children not children too?

Life as it is, is a very big pot of beans.

Globally women are known to suffer in silence, ranging from emotional,physical,mentally and psychologically. Yet, they present a happy face to the world while dying inside. The last time I checked, asking for help is still noble. We must learn to seek for help when we need one.
Some women have nothing doing. Always depending on their husbands to give and assist them. In as much as it’s the duty of the men to take care of his family, we women should endeavor to assist the men financially in our capacity. Skill learning, business and career, women are known to do better than their men 👉 quote me. When a woman puts her mind to something, she will do it excellently well.
In the family (marriage) , women are at the receiving end. Marriage is meant to be enjoyed 👉not endured. Apart from physical biting, there’s no how you as a woman can not enjoy your marriage if you want to. And also make your husband enjoy too except he is a narcissist. All these and more GAVE BIRTH. to this platform.
WOMEN ! COME OUT OF YOUR SHELL AND SPEAK UP LEAST YOU DIE IN SILENCE. A problem shared is a problem half solved.
