.So sorry my friends, I have been away for so long. I have been on a pilgrimage to find a sacred icon, the Deer Lort. I have faithfully recreated it for you here.
The Deer Lort has the head of a deer, the body of a dove and a rattlesnakes tail.
The icon was created to protect a planet in a distant galaxy from a Stupidity plague.
I was sent by the Holy Singing fishes to find the icon, though at first I did not know why I was chosen. Now it is clear.
The stupidity plague was originally contracted aurally, although it may now also be contracted even visually. Misinformation is spread either malevolently, or by those infected, through word of mouth or even virally in social media. You will recognize those infected by their paranoid devotion to those who spread misinformation, particularly political and religious leaders who spread the plague for their own gain, though we are seeing disturbing evidence that even those who should be immune, such as licensed physicians (or those masquerading as such), are also carriers.
If you encounter someone who is infected with stupidity, it is vitally important that you Do Not Engage in conversation with them. Smile, nod politely, and mutter under your breath “Deer Lort” while slowly moving away.
May the Deer Lort protect us all from stupidity and the actions of the stupid. Remember to teach your children critical thinking skills.
We all know the Great Prophet Zarquon will return at the end of the universe, so, I exhort you to
1.always know where your towel is,
2.don’t be a dick,
3.be excellent to each other
4. Just keep swimming
And contemplate the words of the Great Prophet Zarquon
“How are we for time?”
The Deer Lort.
A sacred icon to be invoked when someone has contracted the Stupidity Plague.
Do not engage those so infected, as it is believed to be contracted by listening to misinformation, Merely smile, nod your head politely, and mutter "Deer Lort!" under your breath while slowly moving away.
This message has been brought to you by the Chapel of the Holy Singing Fishes, by special request of the Great Prophet Zarquon.
In these strange times I have contemplated the potential of reaching a breaking point: the moment at which I would wish to cease to live.
Yet something always gives me hope, keeps me moving past the idea of that point of no return.
And then, only when I have hope, do I return to faith.
I look again to ancient ways, and study new ones, to find my meaning and purpose.
A recent return for me is prayer.
I discovered that in all of the oldest texts, prayer was Giving Thanks.
I recognize the power in this: to give thanks for food, and the elements that make food possible, and then the list gets longer with all of the things one can give thanks for. It changes ones outlook.
Three times a day I remember to give thanks. Recently, I have started adding in a mantra used by yoga instructors:
"May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering."
This morning, I happened to direct these thoughts to particular deities.
A thought was directed back at me:
"My child. Suffering is how you grow."
Someone asked me what religion, divinity, and spirituality meant to me:
Spirituality is being taken out of your Self, understanding that you are a part of a whole. Divinty is what you honor that brings you to that understanding.
Religion is how you practice the understanding that you have learned from spirituality.
Another singing fish!
The Tree of Life - Ecology and Mythology of the Fig Tree A tree rooted deep within the theology of humanity is the fig tree. The largest ethnic group in Kenya known as the Kikuyu derive their name from the word Gĩkũyũ, meaning ‘massive fig’. The sycamore fig (Ficus sycamorus) in this case. This same sycamore fig is represented in early Egyptian myt...
On Ash Wednesday I observe the martyrdom of an individual I refer to as St. Bruno the Heretic.
On Ash Wednesday, 1600, he was burned at the stake for heresy.
Bruno, a Dominican friar and priest, incredibly started his path toward heresy while still a noviate. He started by questioning the doctrine of the Trinity and the Virginity of Mary. In spite of this, he was made a priest. He voraciously studied Aristotle, widely revered in the time period, but soon began to quarrel with the philosopher concerning the nature of the universe. He prefered Copernicus, who was sure the Earth revolved around the sun, and not the other way around. He found fault wirh Coperincus, too. Like Aristotle and all earthly observers of the time, it was believed that the stars and planets were fixed to transparent spheres that rotated around us, one inside the other, but all had fixed, perfectly circular orbits, and this was all the universe was.
Bruno intuited that neither the earth or our sun were the center of the Universe, but instead were one solar system among many, that stars were other suns, that each must have their own earth. with people living on them. These ideas influenced Galileo.
His thirst for knowledge was insatiable: he developed memory techniques, which he taught, so incredible he got in trouble for performing magic.
He studied banned books on the human nature of Jesus. and came to doubt his divinity. He was led to study Hermetic mysticism, which got him into more trouble.
Excommunicated from the Catholic Church, he fled to Protestant countries.
He was later excommunicated from both Lutheran and Wesleyan churches.
He believed that God did not live outside of the universe, but existed in the tiny particles of which we are all made -an idea that is now called Pandeism.
He was a mathmatician and a respected teacher, but had no patience for close minded ignorance. He dreamed of a world in which people with defferent religions could live next to each other harmoniously, and be free thinkers.
Eventually he got himself in trouble in Venice, and was turned over to the Inquistion and extradited to Rome.
After 8 years of exhausting inquiry and torture, He told the inquistors they were probably more frightened of sentencing him than he was to receive sentencing.
He was taken to the stake gagged, and burned on February 17th, 1600, Ash Wednesday.
The Mayor of Rome every year puts a wreath at the foot of his statue in the Campo de' Fiori, on February 17th. I honor him on Ash Wednesday.
He was the first Western man to understand the Nature of the Universe - without the use of a telescope!- who had a concept of atoms and cells without the use of microscopes, and who believed that people needed the freedom to explore new ideas.
So, this Ash Wednesday, think of this stilled voice of reason and imagination, and consider boycotting the fish frys of the repressive Church. I will be frying my own fish, not out of fasting or sacrifice, but to celebrate St. Bruno the heretic.

well, there we have it. The Question.
Mathematicians Solve an Enduring '42' Problem Using Planetary Supercomputer Mathematicians have finally figured out the three cubed numbers that add up to 42. This has settled a problem that has been pondered for 65 years: namely, can each of the natural numbers below 100 be expressed as the sum of three cubes?
Hope you had a good Groundhog Day!
In St.Louis, Mo, we hit a record high of 70 degrees Farenheit. So I am going to make my own weather prediction.
ahem.
This groundhog day is sunny and bright
unseasonably warm into the night.
I fear the Spring Equinox will not be as nice
No rain or snow, we are going to have ice.
Robot priests can bless you, advise you, and even perform your funeral AI religion is upon us. Welcome to the future.
Happy Perihelion Day! Today the Earth is closest to the sun!
Thoughts on the New Year, 2020.
Studying the traditions of Judaic peoples in the first century in the Common Era.
My thoughts:
Many philosophies of several cultures influenced each other in that time period.
Messianic philosophies arose out of a peoples desire for autonomy of governance according to their own traditions.
They conflated these desires with a mythology that imagined their own culture and its rules and philosophies triumphing and ruling over all.
Moderation, kindness, and recognizing the rights of others to live and thrive seem to me to be the best philosophies.
Many teachers and philosophers encourage these virtues, within religions and separate from them.
I need no motivation to follow these teachings other than they are truths.
I do not need their authors to be deified, or to be promised some future eternal reward for praciticing them.
If we are to worship any deity, Let it be Life itself. Let it be Compassion. I would honor all of that which promotes and contributes to that Mystery of Life, the great web of interconnectedness without which we cannot flourish.
Therefore I honor the Sun, which gives us warmth and days. The Earth and its rotation. The Moon which gives us tides and seasons.
Water, without which life cannot be. Air, with its unique ingredient Oxygen, by which we bresthe, that Breath that was once considered the Soul Itself.
Our ancestors, whose adaptations are encoded into our genes.
Animals and plants and fungi which are our food. The bacteria that are the multitudes within us, processing all we consume.
Soil, to which all things return, broken down and reprocessed to become part of other living things.
Look not for an end time and the coming of a new age. Imagine no deity in human form, except as metaphor. Look not for a savior.
We are each only a part of a whole.
Be kind because it is good to be kind. Strive to undo damage, repair and rebuild. Look for solutions that, in helping you, do not hurt others, Remember that others are not just those of your species, but also those upon whose existance you depend, which is all of them.

Perihelion. The Day that our Earth is closest to the Sun.
Celebrate this Day, The New Years Day of The Chapel of the Holy Singing Fishes. All Life on this planet is closest to the Life giving Sun on this day. Give Thanks. Be Kind. Don't Panic. and keep track of your Towel!
Hiya! Sorry its been awhile since I posted, Life, you know (Life, Don't talk to me about life).
The great prophet Zarquon, as you know, will have returned at the Restaurant of the End of the Universe. We dont know a lot about him because The Church of the Second Coming of the Great Prophet Zarquon became something of a Universal joke, what with him procrastinating returning, and all.
We do know that he had Holy Singing Fish.
I promptly decided that they must be the helpful 'angels' of the Reformed Church of the Second Coming of Zarquon, and founded The Chapel of the Holy Singing Fishes.
This led me on a quest to find their manifestation in our dimension. I found them.
I realized then, I had heard about them, before. They are Dr. Seuss's humming fish.
This video is not about their singing, (I will post another video about that) but it does show them in their natural habitat.
By the way, they have 3 genders.
I am not going to make up a religion based on a 3 minute skit in a comedic science fiction show without having some science in it.
Geek with me over these fish!
