"It is not just in our formal acts of religion that we must seek to glorify God. All of life must be ordered toward God’s glory. By God’s design, we humans are creatures set on glorifying an object. Where we do this wrongly, the object of our glory might either be ourselves or any other created reality. This is the deathtrap of idolatry. It is to regard as of utmost worth and weight a thing of unremarkable ordinariness in comparison to God. Anselm of Canterbury has described God as ‘a being than which nothing greater can be conceived.’ If this is true—and it is!—then the true object of our glory-ing can only ever be God."
