Environmental and Animal Defense

We provide affordable access to justice for animals and their human counterparts.

In light of Meta's ongoing smear campaign that intends to silence American voices and disrupt their freedom of association, we will no longer post content of any kind to this platform. We had already moved away from this platform because Meta prioritizes sponsored content and our reach did not expand with engagement. To ensure the ongoing ability to communicate within your communities, we recommend you leave this platform and find other platforms that enable and encourage community building. Meta is not social media, it is corporate media.
American technology companies have shown they are enormous national security risks, see https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/04/us/politics/cambridge-analytica-scandal-fallout.html
and now they have shown they will wield their immeasurable power to silence competitors that offer experiences much closer to true social media, that empower, rather than silence, the people.

We will leave our page up for individuals who still use this platform so that they can identify our organization, but will not respond to communications directed at us through this platform. Please contact us through our website at www.eadefense.org or using our listed business information.

- Environmental and Animal Defense Colorado's affordable and low-cost non-profit law firm. We are animal attorneys. We are environmental attorneys. Justice with Jessica: Post-holiday animal abandonment 12/01/2023

Thank you, Denver7, for interviewing our Executive Director on the implications of post-holiday animal abandonment. Getting a new pet is a big responsibility. Individuals and families should have a plan to care for that pet for the rest of the pet's life, and have a back up plan in case they are no longer able to adequately care for or keep that pet. If someone abandons an animal, they may face serious legal consequences. All pets deserve loving and safe homes!

Justice with Jessica: Post-holiday animal abandonment Some shelters are concerned that their overcrowding problems could worsen due to people dropping off pets they received as gifts but never wanted.

We are excited to celebrate our 5 year anniversary!

We started eaDefense during a tumultuous time in 2017, but we had a vision for a better world than the one around us – a sustainable world where justice was available to all, even animals.
With your support, we have worked tirelessly to create positive change, and in the past five years we have had tremendous success!

Where have we had success? Everywhere.

We have:

🐶 Freed dozens of Colorado family pets, emotional support animals, and service animals from impoundment

🍃Forced the U.S. government to protect our air quality

🩺 Held accountable negligent veterinarians for malpractice and fraud

💜 Aided fledging nonprofits, allowing them to open their doors to protect new animals

🏙 Fought the expansion of urban and suburban sprawl

🔎 Illuminated government action that damaged our world and harmed animals

🦅 Protected wildlife in Colorado, across the United States, and internationally

🗽 Educated a new generation of animal advocates

🐱 Defended rescues and shelters and saved their animals in the process

💪 Expanded justice by representing low-income and homeless individuals and families

🐺 Gave a voice to animals who were victims of crime who otherwise would not have had their interests represented

⚖️ Advanced new laws that protect animals

🎙Championed new theories of animal rights in courts and the legislature

We thank you for your ongoing support and cannot wait to see what successes we can achieve over the next five years!

Supreme Court limits EPA’s power to combat climate change 01/07/2022

We all suffer when courts abandon their duty as arbiters of law & justice and appoint themselves decisionmakers on policy that suffocate our ability to survive.

Supreme Court limits EPA’s power to combat climate change The decision risks putting the U.S. further off track from President Biden’s goal of running the power grid on clean energy by 2035.

Happy the elephant is not a person, a court rules 14/06/2022

While we are saddened by the news that Happy will remain in confinement, we are cautiously optimistic about the dissenting judge's powerful opinions. It is particularly inspiring that the dissenting judges appear to recognize that animals, as autonomous beings, have inherent rights that cannot be limited.

Happy the elephant is not a person, a court rules The 5-2 decision by the court comes in a closely watched case that tested the boundaries of applying human rights to animals.
