Newest canvas painting.
I am overall happy with it but it was a major headache. I decided to try canvas from Hobby Lobby and you get what you pay for. It was such a crap piece of canvas. There must be some oil or similar product in the gesso they paint on these because the paint would not stick at all. It kept coming up off the canvas.
I love their tracing paper and I really like the brushes for the price but the canvas’s are horrible.

Painting a Spawn #1 Cover Part 1

Painting Spawn #1 Sketch Cover A Disaster in the Making? Part 1 Going to attempt to take a blank Spawn #1 sketch cover and turn it into a small acrylic painting. I'm not even sure the paper can hold up the process at this...

Just completed two new sketch covers. Pen & Ink and acrylic painting. Honestly, I was not sure the cover of Spawn would hold up to the paint but I was happily surprised.

After several weeks of really hard work my first large painting is done.
The this was a commission measuring 30x48 inches done with acrylics. I don’t work full time as an artist but I do own my own business so I could schedule my time for when it was best for me to paint.
Most times I would paint in the late hours after everyone was asleep and the house was quiet.
Doing a painting this large for the first time was harder than I expected but I really like the way it looked when finished. So much so I bought a large easel and more large canvases.

Flashback Thursday

This is an old piece but I still like it even though I’ve learned more since this was created and I’m hopefully better. I’ve just always like the Boris Vallejo vibe it gives.

Laying down the inks for this massive canvas. It is so big it does not fit on my table (or easel) I have to turn it upside down and work on half at a time.

Line art for a massive 30x42 canvas painting I’m doing doing as a commission now.

I have intentionally stayed off social media for months now. I’ve been taking time to consider what I want to do with art.
For years I did nothing then a few years ago I picked it up planning on seeking work with small publishers. Lately however I have decided to only work on private commissions and personal projects.
I am working on expanding my social media presence to include video of my process and discussions about projects.
So keep an eye out for future work and announcements.

Yesterday my best friend for the last seven years died due to cancer.
I own a home based business so I e spent nearly every single day with Grayson. He was my companion who kept me from being isolated and alone.
I have heard some say they believe because of God’s love for us our pets wait for us in Heaven. I hope this is true. I’ve had some great pets that I miss but Grayson was more. He was my friend and I cannot imagine what it will be like without him.

The largest illustration I’ve ever done.
This is for a comic store display. I was going to have the dragon fighting a wizard but as I started transferring it to canvas I decided to do a medieval Wolverine.

#2024

I've been absent from social media for a while working on some personal projects, but today I am ready to share what I want to do.
I've been a comic book fan my entire life. I love them. The stories, history, art, everything. Growing up I wanted to be a comic book artist. I did not receive any encouragement in this as everyone thought it was a bad idea. As I grew older I let those voices make my decisions in my own head and I gave it up. That is my fault I should have never done that.
Now I'm old and wise enough (though some would argue that last point) to know better. So I started working on new submissions. However, as I looked at modern comics I decided I could not in good consciousness work for most companies even if I could get over that massive hurdle of getting an assignment.
I will not support Woke agenda-minded creators and companies that are more concerned with the narrative and getting a TV/Movie deal than the love of comics themselves.
I know my Christian/conservative views will prevent me from ever getting work for most comic and gaming companies, and I don't care. I will not bend my knee for a dollar or recognition.
What I am going to do is create my own. Will it fail? Most likely, but I will try again and again until I get it right. That means going forward there will not be much random art but rather a focus on my own project.
I will be sharing art and story snippets as I go along. Not sure how this will end, how I will finance it, or if it will see the light of day. But it will be mine. Nothing woke, just comics.

Another black and white experiment.
This time using inks, pencils, watercolors, and acrylics. I like the way these mediums work together and plan to use them in on this project going forward.

07/11/2023

Worked till 3 a.m. on this ink and marker piece. I am starting a black-and-white project and trying to decide on the mediums I want to use.
What I discovered is it will not be markers. I know a lot of artists use them and produce some great work, but I really do not like them. The next thing I'm going to try is watercolor and pencil.
As for the picture, this is an original character and you will be learning more about this over the next several months.

A new acrylic painting I completed this past weekend. I used a new (to me anyway) varnish on it and I really like the way it enriched the colors. Definitely will be my varnish of choice going forward.

Finished a new painting a little after midnight.
