❗️If you smell hydrogen sulfide (rotten) in your washing machine, it is probably the result of a build-up of mold, dirt or old detergent. All this can be found in the washing machine itself or in some of its components, for example in the door seal.

❌Cause no. 1: Something was left in the door
If you have a front loading washing machine, there is definitely a large rubber seal around the door.
Water or detergent can get into the seal, which remains there for several days or weeks and is the cause of bacterial overgrowth. Other times, a wet sock gets into the seal, which is the perfect basis for mold to grow.

❌Cause no. 2: Clogged drain plug or pump
Another possible cause of the problem is a clogged drain plug. In most models, it is located at the bottom of the washing machine, on the front, side or back and can cause odor problems.

❌Cause no. 3: The washing machine is clogged
If you have a top-loading washing machine, the best way to remove the musty smell is to clean it thoroughly. If you don't clean your washing machine regularly, it can start to accumulate mold and dirt. Alternatively, an unpleasant odor may appear. And this applies not only to the top-loading model, but also to the side-loading model.

If cleaning the washing machine did not work, the last reason why you can smell rot from the washing machine is a clogged septic tank or drain. When this happens, the smell enters your washing machine through the drain hose.

Therefore, it is necessary to wash the washing machine well. In addition to the seal and pump, clean other parts and focus on disinfection.
