Though the ghosts of players past were silent, I continued to capture their memory with pictures from the lower concourse. One could close their eyes and recall the Sox and Negro League players sporting the uniform of their respective time period. When I did it, the visions passed like flipping through a rolodex. I wasn't there to see them play but I could still sense and appreciate their presence.

Taken @ Dodgertown in Vero Beach, FL during spring training of 1984. This image was an outtake for Topps baseball cards.

After years of assorted faux pitching poses and head shots, the photographer and I both decided to be adventurous and work outside the box. I loved it but apparently Topps thought better of our choice. File this photo under "what could've been."

The original picture was taken in the spring of 1980 at Dodgertown in Vero Beach FL. Topps used this image in a series they called "Giant Photo Cards" issued in 1981. The card measured 5x7 and was quadruple the size of a traditional baseball card.

I obtained the original transparency in a purchase from Topps who also provided a high resolution scan. This image is the result after an extensive cleanup and color correction.

During the summer of 2018, I purchased a number of original transparencies, slides and negatives from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards. Included in the deal were a number of original images that were used or licensed by Topps in annual baseball cards, stamps and other issues.

This image was derived from the original transparency that was released as the 1980 Topps baseball card.

During the summer of 2018, I purchased a number of original transparencies from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards. In the package of film stock, there were a number of pieces that were used in Topps cards including the cards from 1978 and 1979. This outtake was derived from one of this session.

The original picture was taken at Three Rivers Stadium during the 1977 season. Using the Buctracker.us website which lists the uniform combinations worn during the 1977 season, I was able to deduce the date to four possibilities: May 22, June 12, July 4 or July 24. My best guess is July 24 as the Pirates played a Sunday day game. The light seems correct for a midday photo as the shadow is nearly at my feet.

This style of cap never held its shape and never displayed properly in all the photos I have. Either that, or my head's on crooked! 😉

Scanned from the original transparency of a picture taken at Shea Stadium in 1976. Two other pictures were used by Topps from this brief session. One was used in the 1977 series of baseball cards and another was used in a series of cards distributed by Hostess in 1977.

In 2018, I purchased a number of transparencies from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards. This image was an outtake of that impromptu photo session before one of the games. Hard to believe it was taken over 40 years ago.

The original photo was taken at Shea Stadium in 1975 in a session for a series of baseball cards issued by Hostess in 1976. This image was from the session but not used in the Hostess series.

In 2018, I purchased a number of film strips from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards. The original transparency of this image was included in the purchase.

The original picture was taken at Shea Stadium during a series against the Mets either June 9-11 or August 21-23, 1972. This image was used in Topps Baseball cards in 1973. Though not 100% certain, Mickey Palmer was the photographer.

In the summer of 2018, I purchased a number of transparencies from Topps that were issued as baseball cards. This image was derived from one of those transparencies.

The original transparency for this image was purchased in a group from Topps Vault, the eBay sales name for Topps Baseball Cards. This image was used in 1974 series of stamps. Click on this link to learn about Topps series of 1974 stamps.

In August of 2018, I purchased a number of transparencies from my playing days from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards.

This image was processed from the transparency of an original picture taken in March of 1973 during spring training in Cocoa, FL. This one of the few images I have in color wearing the Astros' "shooting star" uniform.

Taken @ Pirate City in Bradenton, FL during spring training of 1974. This image was an outtake for Topps baseball cards. I purchased a number of film strips from Topps Vault, a subsidiary of Topps Baseball Cards, in 2018. The original transparency of this image was included in the purchase.

The original picture was taken in Shea Stadium sometime in 1972 or 1973. The original photo was part of a collection I purchased from Topps Vault in 2018. I couldn't keep a straight face posing for another faux pitching stance.

Taken @ Candlestick Park in SF during a series of games against the Giants April 21-23, August 4-6 or September 7-8, 1972. The original photo was part of a collection I purchased from Topps Vault in 2018.

Taken @ Candlestick Park in SF in 1971 during the Cardinals visit in April or July. This image was an outtake from a brief photo session for Topps. If you look closely at my mouth, you may notice that I'm wearing braces. I loved the ballplayers insurance plan!

Among the outtakes from my purchase of original film strips from Topps Vault in 2018 was this faux pitching pose from either 1969 or 1970. Taken at Shea Stadium, the wool uniform was the giveaway. The Cardinals wore the wool uniforms during spring training of 1971 before they switched to knits to open the 1971 season.
