Chudleigh Station in OO - GWR
My attempt of building an OO Gauge model of Chudleigh station and it’s various sidings. The basebo
The new setup for the layout on the board, it will be a fictional station on the teign valley line with three sidings. Lots of work to do in tearing up most scenery excluding the hills but I think it’s looking solid. Rapido 15xx on the way, and thinking about the Kernow railmotor as they are modelling the exact unit that ran on the Teign Valley railway in the 20s but we will see…

Update - April 2023
After being absent from the scene for almost a year (apart from for work) I have decided I ought to give it another shot at modelling, or at least prepare for a future in the hobby.
So the Chudleigh diorama - I’ll be honest I don’t have the right mindset, time, or energy to actually do any work on it now due to work/uni taking up the majority of my time - however I’m hoping by the summer I might have an idea of what to do, I would like to start small, I’m thinking cleaning up the track since the ballasting is shoddy in some areas, and I’d like to make a start on the platforms and then take it from there.
As for the stock, I have sold of the majority of my modern image stock so I can focus on GWR and BR(W) stock for the layout - the most recent purchases are 4 of Rapido’s 4-plank open wagons and a Rapido Iron Mink - I think they are super nice and well detailed models, but I’ll admit if I didn’t work for a model shop I probably wouldn’t be able to afford them 😅. Again being a uni student I can’t allocate vast sums of money to stock, but I aim to get 2 GWR and 2 BR era coaches, a pannier in gwr and a Toad by the end of the year (I do have my eyes on one of Rapido’s up and coming 15xx locos).
I also plan to carry on with some “freelance” railway work - namely modelling some locos and stock for an alternate world where the Teign Valley Railway was a bit more economically stable, and didn’t sell out to the GWR as early as it did in real life! I plan to do up a couple Hunslets and number and name them for the TVR and I’d like to do a brake and some wagons too! The first one will be No 5 “Castle Dyke” which currently is No 82 “Henry” of the Port of Bristol railway, I won’t repaint it and I like the livery, but hopefully I can get some custome nameplates and transfers made to rename the loco!
Knowing me I’ll probably dissapear for another year but let’s wait and see,
Cheers !
About a year ago I developed a bit of a thing for alternate history, and this ended up with me coming up for this concept where maybe the legendary “King Arthur” was a lot more than just a legend, and was able to defeat the Saxons at the Battle of Deorham, saving at least the west country, cornwall and wales from Saxon invasion and settlement.
The same bloodline would go on to unify the Celtic Kingdoms of Cornwall and Dumnonia and control most of what we know as the west country today from the Kingdoms capital at Exeter.
Eventually the kingdom would unite with wales, leading to the photos below, where we see some “Transport for Dumnonia” services operating on the Teign Valley line in Devon 🙂
As for actual progress, I have once again done absolutely nothing other than notice a pretty severe warp in my board - not sure what to do about it!
- also I know this is all impossible hence “alternate” history!
Update for May!
Quite a bit of work has been done, with some basic greenery added to the layout around the front and inbetween the tracks. I’m quite happy with how it looks and think it will look okay with some grass tufts and bushes etc. I plan to have a decent bit of white fencing down the front on the layout.
Not sure where to go from here really, might just do the massive gravel car park area that I’ve seen in the photos of the station, and then some darker forest turf down the back of the layout.
In other news the first loco for the layout (that I actually own) has arrived in the form of 4134, not sure if this actually ran on the line but I know 41xx locos at the very least did the Trusham quarry trains!
