Hello All, my sincerest apologies for being late with updates and such. Things have been crazy nuts for me these last few months. On top of starting a new job, my life has been very very stressful. I'm working on a few things atm, but nothing that screams "post me...post me". I thank you for all your patience and understanding.
Two posts in one week...Trying my hand at getting back to the writing. Cracked open the old laptop and seeing what foolishness I can come up with.
Hey folks, thank you so very much for following, things have been topsy turvy in recent months.
There is new stuff coming, just real life has other plans, with the passing of my mother and just my mental state, I've slowed down significantly in order to accommodate this new change. I'll still be taking jobs, I'm not stopping in that area. Again you have my thanks.
Mike.

Other Mike over at Mpact Design has been doing more work on the comic book cover featuring yours truly. There's a gnarly monster coming to life stage left.
New content coming very shortly, The Artist just has to be able to squeeze some time out of his hectic work week to be able to sit down for an hour and doodle some pretty pictures. Also there might...Might be a special surprise coming very soon.
Keep watching.

As an aspiring comic book artist vans graphic designer, there has always been a sort of manic energy that takes over whenever I start a client gig. It always starts during the earliest stages of the job and continues until the end. Having been fortunate enough to adapt to the ever changing climate of both the area and client wishes, each and every piece is started the same way. A frantic sketch, to get the idea down and then come the endless questions rebounding around my brain. "Too big?? Too small? Everything look ok?" And on and on. I grew up on the back end of the 1980's and just barely got into the Giants that were Kirby and Neal Adams and a personal favorite Bernie Wrightson. Pulled into the explosion of creator owned work in the 1990's, the boys at image were always a favorite. Such creators as Jim Lee's Deathblow and Stephen Platt s' work on Prophet as well as the short lived Soul Saga. Each and everyone of them serving as an inspiration to a little fat kid who just wanted to draw like them.( And wishes to still do so today!) I never want to loose the energy and loose the want and the will to do art and do what I love. Below is a quick and dirty loose sketch of a secret project that I've been lucky enough to both spearhead and be a part of. My apologies folks for both the lack of content and the size of the post. I'm going to be busy for the next little while and will update as frequently as work dictates.
Mike.
Final Design for Fictional Comic book company that I created for a very special commission. I had so much fun with this, Maybe I can produce a few books under this banner...what do you think?
Finished inks to a two part client job.So very happy with the outcome. Part two comes next week, then onto the "super secret-project".

It all starts with an idea. This is the logo that will be used for a super detailed superhero portrait for a new client. I am so happy to have been able to start this. I'm looking forward the pushing the boundaries of my art in terms of both scale and detail ( rendering). Keep watching this space as there will be weekly updates for any and all things going on over here at Mpact Design. Spread the word folks!!
Sneak peek part two:
Been two days without having a daily sketch. The reason?? Client Work. But I am able to show you the beginning of it, I don't think it would hurt too much. Drawing inspiration from Bernie Wrightson, and a few others I dove headfirst into left field and decided that I liked it there. Going to be a few "big projects" coming, so please stick around folks you're not going to be disappointed. But for now here is a taste.
In between commissions and client work, that's when a burst of creativity hits me the hardest. I feel the need to give myself a "something different to do", hence these daily sketches. It's my way of keeping my toes dipped in the giant pool that we as artists decide to play in. It isn't much, but it's my way of expressing my love for this world and these characters. Below is Daily sketch #5. Batman. Now it was going to be a variation of Batman, the two gun wielding Thomas Wayne, but I figured I'd save him for another day. ( The same as the Kingdom Come Superman). Anyways, just a sketch, so we'll see what happens.
Daily sketch #4.
The Big man himself. Arguably one of the greatest heroes ever. His story in Kingdom Come was beautiful as painted by an inspiration to me Alex Ross, and beautifully played by Christopher Reeve. Don't get me wrong, Henry Cavill is superb, but for me, as a kid from the 1980's it'll always be Reeve, he made us believe in the inherent goodness in folks. I love the tag line from the Donner film. "You'll believe that a man can fly". More of these to come folks, spread the word.
