Happy 2 year silver anniversary!

It’s officially been two years since my last full color. As of my last trim in January I have about an inch left of color on some of my layers in the back but I’m basically fully grown out.

If you’re just getting started, or are thinking about growing out your silver, here are some things I learned along the way.

❤️ don’t judge what your hair will look like from the first couple inches of growth. Before I let my hair grow out I was convinced that I was completely white underneath all my color. As it turns out my gray is mostly growing in a halo, with a strong silver money piece in the front. The back of my hair is only about 20 % grey.

❤️ Be prepared for compliments. I spent hundreds on coloring and highlighting my hair and no one would notice. Now that I’ve gone gray I get compliments on a daily basis, it’s crazy. I have seriously gotten stopped on vacation, in the coffee line, at restaurants, I even had a guy come up to me mid conversation in an art gallery to complement my hair. it happens so often my husband jokes about it.

❤️ Ignore the critics. I’ve seriously only had a couple people give me negative comments and it’s usually based in their own insecurities.

❤️ don’t let anyone tell you you’ve let yourself go. My hair is healthier now than it has been in years. Invest in some good products your hair will love you for it.

❤️ There will be days when you will question your decision. I sometimes still wonder if it makes me look older. But growing out my gray has opened my eyes to see that there are women going grey at every age!

❤️ grey doesn’t = old. I actually feel like letting my hair go to my natural color has given me an opportunity to embrace my uniqueness. So buy the new make up, get the fun outfit, get the Botox if you want. Or don’t. But embrace your unique you.

❤️ Your hair will look totally different depending on the light. Embrace your inner chameleon.

❤️ Don’t be too hard on yourself, it’s OK to change your mind. If you color your hair again, no regrets, it’s hair, it’ll grow back. 😉
