World Mental Health Day
The many faces of mental health!!
Ahhh! Too many to count and forever changing! From positives that can still feel uncomfortable like pride, alongside pensive reflective moments to difficult hard truths to understand.
They all matter 🤍

I saw a few years back a photographer (Feel More Creative🤍) who encouraged capturing moments of vulnerability, moments of feeling we often hide behind, reflections of who we are all the time - not just our best shots! And since then I’ve adapted taking private shots of journaling moments, trickier moments, and attempting to feel the felt sense behind them to learn from. I Didn’t think it was my thing when I started infact I often cringe at my own shots but it has also had some significant, compassionate reflective moments since! The biggest reflection I know and try to own better (still learning) is that we all have many faces, at different times, different moments, different capacities… but that we shouldn’t hide behind or masquerade them because mental health is a journey, an ebb and a flow for all of us! And it is a much better one journeyed together with those in your circle 🤍🤍🤍

Wow! Memories are a brilliant thing most of the time… until they’re not! This time last year I openly shared this on my personal page as I was at the height of what I now know to be a severe reaction to life’s events at the time, known as adjustment disorder. What a whirlwind that time was but reading this back shows how it was more of a whirlwind for those around me because I was oblivious to this extent of my minds speed!

🤍 Yes! This! The experiences I’ve lived have and continue to teach me so much about who I am below it all! Under the surface matters so much more than the outside… the journey to listen to that tho is a much harder one because the noise of expectations, culture, parents, all of it speaks too loud! 🤍🤍

The way people view you.

Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives and a Godsend in others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself.

This song still gives me shivers.

I had left a decade long relationship at this point after it turning ugly in ways I’ve locked away since! Turned up loud as I drove to work as if life just carried on as normal, tears falling I heard it for the first time. I interpreted the song at this time as a sign - hearing this song was the moment I knew there was no return! 90 days is certainly more like 900 though!

I didn’t know how to fix it then!
But now, looking back… walking away, albeit full of fear, was the answer 🤍
