About me
Alexis was born in Havana, Cuba (1967) and raised in an artistic environment that allowed him to develop his aptitude for painting.
Despite not studying at an Arts School, he took multiple courses in painting, drawing perspective and the use of colors during his youth. At 19, he started working as a scenography painter at the Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión de Cuba. During this time, he started developing his technique and presenting his works at different collective exhibits. Parallel to this work, Alexis led a career as a musician in groups of great recognition in Cuba which forced him to distance himself from this art (although he never stopped painting) due to national and international commitments that his career as a composer, music arranger, producer and renowned singer demanded of him.
In 2005, prior to moving to the United States where he currently resides, Alexis emigrates to Guatemala and start delving back into the plastic arts. For the past 10 years, he has made it his priority to further develop his technique and unique style, combining it with his creative experience as a musician, and audiovisual producer.
His most notable influences are shown in a range of scales that goes from the most elementary forms of Renaissance painting to the most absurd surrealism, revealing a refined and aesthetically elevated style. “I do not like labels or self-definitions, I am inspired by my day to day experiences with a pinch of craziness. I’m moved by shapes, figures and the daily happenings, so I think I lean more towards Figurative Surrealism”
