The Great Mosque of Samarra is a mosque from the 9th century CE located in Samarra, Iraq. The mosque was commissioned in 848 and completed in 851 by the Abbasid caliph Al-Mutawakkil who reigned from 847 until 861. At the time of construction, it was the world’s largest mosque 🕌

Officially a new project has been announced to transform the giant Al-Rahman Mosque in the capital, Baghdad, into the largest cultural center in the world surrounded by a forest full of perennial trees that constitute 60% of the project area. It will also include three skyscrapers, a 5-star hotel, cafes, restaurants, a health club, and parking lots.
