The search is on!

Aligned with the National Volunteer Month observance this December, the Youth Formation Unit under the School Governance and Operations Division of the SDO 1 Pangasinan mounts the BAYANING KABATAAN AWARDS to acknowledge the Supreme Student Governmentsa (SSGs) of public secondary schools that are making a mark in leadership, running the extra mile to spark volunteerism in schools and in their communities, thereby contributing to the over-all concerted efforts in disaster awareness and prevention and response.

This awards also supports the student-led School Watching and Hazard Mapping, an offshoot of DepEd Order No. 55, series of 2017 entitled Prioritizing the Mainstreaming of DRRM in the School System and Implementation of Programs and Projects Relative.

The said search highlights that in the midst of the ongoing pandemic where students are directed to home schooling or distant learning - SSGs are also in the forefront of ensuring disaster awareness and prevention, and response which are given emphasis by actively engaging and organizing various webinars related to promoting these areas of concerns. In fact, student leadersa have also initiated various projects related to disaster response to include fund raising and/or relief operations intended for disaster-hit localities. These activities then paved the way to giving Bayanihan and youth volunteerism a deeper meaning.

Furthermore, the said search provides an avenue for students to showcase their timely and relevant programs and best practices related to escalating knowledge and sensivities in disaster awareness and prevention, and response, and to recognize students' effort and contribution in this trying time.

The SSGs of the 31 schools districts under the schools division are highly encouraged to take part in this search.

Times of disaster bring uncertainty and fear. They can test us and stretch us beyond our own limits of possibility. And yet, these times—personal or collective—can also reveal a resiliency and strength unknown. When you are facing a new kind of trying time, keep these promises from Scripture close by for encouragement, reassurance and hope for the days ahead.

This is what faith is all about. You got to believe it before you see it. No matter what you're going through in life always remember that everything happens for a reason. Every bad break, every disappointment, and every person who does you wrong is part of the plan to get you to where you're supposed to be.

You feel that no one loves you. In the darkness that envelops your entire world, no one could and would find you. As if it will be better if a truck struck you while you are crossing the street. As if it will be better if you will accidentally slip off from the 8th floor stairs and skid down until the ground floor.

But remember that while you are crying and all the things that you see are hazy because of the tears that are blurring your vision, God carries you with both of His hands as you traverse the path that you are taking so that you will not stumble. Amidst all the noise that fills your head He tries to get into you. He is that little voice in the back of your mind that says, "Do not give up! Give it another shot. Everything will be alright for it's not over 'til its over!". Listen to it. And once you do, the storm that clouds your life will break and the light will forever shine into your life.
