Virginia Rails
Virginia Rails is a singer-songwriter, alt-country, roots rock band based in Northern Virginia.
If you're not doing anything else on November 18th, come down to Pohick Library's Acoustic Coffee House event. Mike McNulty isn't able to be there, but Justin and Bryan Smith will be there with Jim Lampton to carry the music forward, starting at 6:30 PM. Who knows what will happen?
Acoustic Coffeehouse - Paper Airplanes Join us for an evening of live Folk, Country, and Americana music from Burke's own Paper Airplanes!
Virginia Rails will be playing what will probably be out last live show of 2023 at the Burke Farmers Market this coming Saturday from 9 to noon. Come on over if you’re looking for something to do this weekend. Lots of great venders there and a fun atmosphere as well.

I probably should ditch the bright blue cooling towel, but it was H-O-T.

It’s definitely a wet one!
The music starts in 66 minutes. Oops! 65 minutes. Er…64 minutes. You get the idea.

All mistakes are caused by fingers sticking on guitar necks due to 137% humidity. True fact!
Hotter than the hinges hanging off the gates of hell! But more humid! We pushed through. Great gig. But I’m glad it’s over.
All systems go?
People seem to think our name has something to do with trains and the fact we are based in Virginia. While it is true that approximately 94.6% of our songs mention trains, the name is really an homage to the original musical genre benders of the 60’s - the Byrds, creators of Folk Rock, Country Rock, Raga Rock, and Psychedelic Rock. A Virginia Rail, as it turns out, is an elusive wetland bird - rarely glimpsed by all but the most dedicated bird watchers.
Over the past few years, we have also been seldom glimpsed, but this Sunday at the Lorton Farmers Market, you’ll have the rare opportunity between 10 AM and 1 PM to see us perform original songs, along with some of our favorite covers. All at the price of zero dollars too. If you want to toss a buck or two in the hungry banjo case, we won’t complain, though.

Virginia Rails had a really great show at Lorton Farmers Market today. We are grateful to all the kind people who showed their support by dropping a dollar or five in the old banjo case. If you missed out show today, have no fear! We’re playing the Burke Farmers Market on Saturday, 3 June from 9 AM to 12 PM. We really feel we are hitting our stride and we look forward to seeing our followers join us for a mix of original songs and reimaginings of songs we love.
Hi, Everyone! Virginia Rails will be playing at the Lorton Farmers Market from 10 AM until 1 PM on Sunday, May 28th. The market is located at the
VRE parking lot, 8990 Lorton Station Blvd. in Lorton, Virginia. Come out to see us and grab some fresh produce while you’re at it!
We just finished our first proper gig (at the Burke Farmers Market) since COVID derailed us back in 2020. We had a great time and we are grateful to our “exclusive” group of hardcore fans who came out to support us. Speaking for myself, I had some jitters at first, but we seemed to hit out stride pretty quickly. It ended up being a great time!
Hey, everyone! After a too-long hiatus, during which we honed our playing and wrote a bunch of new original songs, it looks like the Virginia Rails will finally be playing our first real gig in quite some time. If you‘re not busy from 9 AM to noon this Saturday, May 13th at the Burke Farmer’s Market.
