Happy Monday Everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful mother's day with the important people in your life. Make sure you take every opportunity to thank them for all that they do.

Monday: Judges 12-14, Psalms 143
Tuesday: Judges 15-17; 2 Peter 1
Wednesday: Judges 18-19; 2 Peter 2
Thursday: Judges 20-21; 2 Peter 3
Friday: 1 Samuel 1-2; Psalms 113
Saturday: 1 Samuel 3-6; Psalms 97
Sunday: 1 Samuel 7-9; Psalms 124

Judges:
12: Contrast leadership methodology of Gideon and Jephthah? Why were the men of Ephraim angry with Jephthah? Was their anger justified?
13: The cycle begins again in v. 1. What should happen next but doesn’t? What does this indicate about Israel’s spiritual state at this point in time? God plans to rescue Israel through Samson. As part of this plan God instructs Samson’s mother that he is to be raised according to the Nazarite vow (Num 6:1-21). Why do you think that is?
14:On three occasions we are told explicitly that the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson in power (14:6, 19; 15:14-15). What does he use this God given strength to achieve each time? What does this highlight about God’s commitment to His people?
15: How does Judah’s actions in 15:9-13 demonstrate that they have forgotten God and allowed Philistine culture to dominate them?
16: Samson took God’s special presence in his life for granted. That is, he didn’t care how he lived; he simply assumed that God would always bless him. How might we fall into the same trap? How does the gospel assure of God’s continued presence? How does Samson finally demonstrate a faith in God?
17: The mother mentions YHWH two times. Is she a believer? She appears to know God, so how to explain building the idols? Is this an ok practice?
18: Why ask this priest to inquire of God for them? Were they very spiritual? If not, how to explain their repeated talking about God and “reliance” upon God? Do you think it was good for them to take this Levite? Why or why not?
19: How is the statement “in those days Israel had no king” (19:1) a window into the spiritual state of Israel during the time of the judges?
20:Israel calls upon the tribe of Benjamin to “surrender those wicked men… so that we may put them to death” (20:13). Why will this not “purge the evil from Israel”? The book of Judges has come full circle. Compare 20:18 to 1:1-2 – What is the key difference in these verses, and what does this indicate about Israel’s situation at the end of the book of Judges?
21: How are Israel’s actions to solve the issue of wives for the men of Benjamin deeply ironic? How is 21:25 a good summary of both the book, and of the central problem of humanity?

Psalms
143: On what basis does David make his prayer? What factors cause David to be thirsty for God?
113: ow do you perceive God when you read that He “stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth”? How does this perception of God put space exploration into proper perspective?
97: What false gods do people worship? What distinguishes God from false gods?
124: Have there been occasions in your life when you were under attack but the Lord proved He was on your side? How did He come to your assistance? How does Satan resemble a lion stalking its prey? How can you maintain vigilance against him?

2 Peter
1: The two long sentences in verses 3-4 lay out the Author’s vision of what really matters, what is to be valued, and what we can consider life-giving. How does our own vision of what matters in life line up with this vision? n vv5-8, the Author lists several qualities. What are our responses to this list? In vv13-14, the Author presents a view of the body as a portable shelter, a “tabernacle.” How does this compare to our own view of our bodies? What attitudes or practices towards the body would this attitude lead to? Why is that, do we think?
2: What are the false teaching of "prophets" today and what is our response to them? Why do you think Peter calls Lot “righteous?” What can we learn from this? What difference do we see in these examples between how God treats the evil and the godly?
3: We read many places in the Bible about the Lord’s patience. In this particular instance, why does Peter say he is patient? (3:9) Have you personally benefitted from God’s patience? Besides what Peter list in verses 11-13 what other reasons are there for holy living? When? How? How can we grow in the “grace and knowledge of Christ?”

Thank you everyone for your vote and support. I wish Shannon L. Bridgmon and Tom McCormack nothing but the best. I expect nothing less from both of them than to make our school district better.

Greetings Warrensburg!
My name is John Paul Suchecki and I am one of the candidates for the Warrensburg School Board this year. I wanted to tell you all a little about me and what I hope to accomplish as a member of the Warrensburg School Board.
For the past two years, I have been working as a minister at the Warrensburg Church of Christ (former movie theatre on Maguire Street). In my life I have worn many hats such Army quartermaster in Iraq, missionary to China, teacher, librarian, and even a personal jungle gym to my two children. You might have seen my name on our sign outside our church or in the religious columns I write for the Daily Star Journal.
I decided to run for school board because I believe it is one of the most important ways a person can help our community. The knowledge we pass on to the next generation will shape and determine the future. It is our job as citizens to make sure that knowledge is the best available.
As a member of the school board there are certain things I hope to accomplish:
Uphold students' and teachers' free speech rights: With a few reasonable limitations, students and teachers do have the right to voice their views. As a board, we should make sure they feel free to participate and express their thoughts in a civil manner and not punish them for independent thought or dissent.
Teacher retention: Since I have been here in Warrensburg my children have attended three different Warrensburg Schools. One thing I have learned about our school system is we have some very good teachers. It should be our job as board members to make sure we do our best to keep the best. One of the ways I would like to do this is to make sure our teachers are being incentivized and would like to push to give teachers a much deserved pay raise that has been neglected for several years.
Transparency and accountability: This seems like a given, but it is a must. As the decision makers, it is our job to make sure what we are doing is honest and transparent. Among other things, big school projects are currently happening and part of our job should be letting you know where your tax dollars are going.
Normalcy: This is a long term goal, but an important one. Many students are stressed with the sudden changes of Covid-19 which have disrupted their social lives, daily routines, food security, and even educational access. These changes have left many students feeling sad, depressed, and anxious about the future. While we recognize the risk that comes with Covid-19 it should be our job as board members to put the school on a path that can bring security back to the students.
Unity: While there are things I would like to see happen, the school board is not about me or any one person. Leaders need to be able to work with each other as well as working well with those they lead to make sure goals and visions are accomplished. We are all stakeholders in this program and have a responsibility to set aside differences (whatever they maybe) for the future of our children.

Thank you for your consideration.
