Hi Everyone,
Even though the new COVID vaccine was approved by the CDC yesterday, the new boosters will NOT arrive on the island for a while.
Since the federal government ended the official Public Health Emergency last May, things are different for how local healthcare outlets receive the vaccine. The State of Georgia is still working on how they will get vaccine to us.
Also, while most insurances will cover the new booster, there is a chance that some will not. Everyone who has insurance will need to check if they are covered.
Coastal Care Partners is aggressively working to obtain the new vaccine.
Also, Village Walk Pharmacy is working on it as well.
We'll post an update when we know more from the state.

Skidaway Island COVID-Booster Clinics will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church starting this Friday, September 9th at 9:00am.
Please go to www.healthyskidaway.com to book an appointment. We will offer both the Pfizer and Moderna Bivalent Booster shots. To be eligible, you must be 2 months past your last vaccine. Pfizer is available for ages 12 and up and Moderna is available for ages 18 and up.

Booster Update August 31, 2022
The FDA has approved (today) the new COVID booster designed to be more effective against newer strains of COVID-19.
The CDC still must meet later this week to provide their guidance on who can get the vaccine and how we as a healthcare organization can provide it.
We do NOT have a date yet on when the booster vaccine will start shipping, but we have already put in an order.
We'll provide updates on this site/page.

Following up on our post earlier this week, we are definitely seeing more positive COVID cases in the urgent care on Skidaway. The past few days we have seen a handful of positives each day compared to almost no positive cases over March and early April.

We now have Moderna at Coastal Care Partners Skidaway Village Urgent Care.
We provide Pfizer every weekday, and Moderna on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

We get requests to provide updates on Island health trends from time to time. While this is not formal data, I will pass along what we are seeing. We don't do ANY deep-dives on the data...so just consider this anecdotal info.
After several weeks of almost no COVID positive cases here in the urgent care in the Village, we have seen an uptick in the last two or three days. We had four positive cases today.
Again, this could be just a few more people coming in for "allergy" type symptoms or for testing for travel. We have been busier this week due to pre-travel testing for Spring Break and the Holiday weekend...so this may NOT be a case of more spreading but just that we are performing more tests.
Just passing this along as we do receive requests to do so.

Just received word that effective Monday March 21st, the government will suspend the CARES Act.
So, at that point the un-insured will no longer be able to test or receive vaccine without paying for service.

I hope everyone is doing great!! We are so happy that the COVID surge has waned for our area!! Hopefully we don't see that again!!

I wanted to provide some information to folks on how things have changed around COVID related medical services and how insurances and the Federal Government are working (or not working) together now.

At the start of the pandemic, the federal government instructed all insurance companies they had to cover the cost of vaccines and testing without charging a copay, deducible, or coinsurance. For the first year and a half of the pandemic, this is how everyone was able to test, all most at will, and have no expense related to that.
That has all changed now. Seemingly randomly the major insurance companies started passing charges back.

This has created TONS of confusion between medical providers like the Village Clinic and others.

Medical providers have been charging your insurance for all testing and vaccines...that is not new...that is how the system has worked, its just that for the first year and a half the patient generally did not get a bill for anything. That is not the case now...at least for testing.
COVID vaccines, as far as we know, are not being billed back to the patient. I hope that stays that way.

Insurance companies are now treating testing and treatment for COVID just like any other medical expense...there are copays, deductibles, and other charges the patient may or may not be responsible for.

Going forward we all need to reset expectations around billing and "patient responsibility" for COVID related medical services.

February 8, 2022 Skidaway Village Clinic COVID testing update.
As health officials predicted, COVID Omicron seems to be in retreat...at least from a testing standpoint.
We are now only testing 10 to 20 people a day...compared to 400+ in early January. Also we are only seeing a handful (1-5) positives in those tests.
Good news for sure!!!

COVID testing results at the Village Clinic for Thursday 2/3...only "2" positive tests out of 33 tests. Let's keep this trend going!!!!!!

After a busy Monday, yesterday and today have been drastically slower in testing and the positivity rate has decreased!!
Tuesday we did 46 tests with 21% positive.
Today, Wednesday Feb 2, we did 68 tests and our positivity rate was only 10%. I would love for that to continue, but let's get a few more days of data in and see if this drop is a trend!!

Hi All! We tested 114 people today (Monday 1/31) and had 31% positive. We are hearing that the hospitals are seeing a decline in case numbers, but it's not the dramatic drop we are waiting for. Crossing fingers the trend downward speeds up!!

Wednesday January 26th Skidaway Village Clinic COVID testing update: 93 tests and 29% positive.

Tuesday 1/25/22 Skidaway Village Clinic COVID Testing; 79 tests today with 28% positive. Our positive percentage has been bouncing around a good bit lately so I would not put much stock in the as an indicator of infection rate. The good news does continue that most of the cases we see are mild to moderate flu like symptoms with most people reporting a pretty rough sore throat as the early symptom. Also we are hearing that the community trend has leveled off and that is a good sign also.

COVID-19 testing has moved into our Skidaway Village Clinic only. We TEST and VACCINATE daily 8:30am to 5:45pm.
Also, we are a full Urgent Care, so if you need to see a provider for a sick visit, we can take care of you.

Today we saw our overall test numbers go down but our positivity rate was much higher. I wouldn't read too much into this, we still have a fair amount of people who are retesting after a previous positive result. The reason is many businesses and schools want to see a negative result before people return.
