We are posting on behalf of a fellow Pa wildlife rehabilitator. The spotted lantern fly nymphs have been seen in recent days. Along with the emergence of the lantern flies comes the fly paper, giant glue bands and an array of adhesive products. We understand that spotted lantern flies are destructive but the fly paper and glue in which people use to capture the nymphs also threatens native wildlife including birds, snakes, mammals and even birds of prey. Please stop using this method. Scrapping egg masses and squashing the adults. Penn State extension recommends hardware cloth around the band, but we recommend not using them at all. This poor big brown was stuck to the glue band and in a desperate attempt to frantically free himself he chewed his wing. What a way to die 😩😩 stop doing this!
Thanks to everyone who made this possible including: Lower Saucon Township, & Lower Saucon Township Council, Leslie Huhn, Priscilla deLeon, Skelly and Loy, Preservation Pennsylvania, the State Historic Preservation Office, and anyone else who I am not familar with your role in this.
And a big thank you to Lisa Boscola, Bob Freeman, and Justin Simmons for your support as well.
Words cannot express my excitement!!!
Meadows Road Bridge (1858) eligible for listing in the National Register ❤️🎈🎉
At the June 2, 2020 meeting of the PA Historic Preservation Board, the Meadows Road Bridge was unanimously recommended as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The next step in the process is for the nomination to be forward to the National Park Service in Washington DC who will formally list the bridge in the National Register. Thanks to Gerry Kuncio of the firm Skelly & Loy who prepared the nomination.
The Meadows Road Bridge is significant as the last remaining example of a four-span stone arch bridge - an already-uncommon historic resource - remaining in Northampton County
(Photo: p deLeon 5/30/3018)
The Meadows Road Bridge (Key No. 137084, BMS No. 48721003769015) was previously determined not eligible for the National Register. The bridge has been re-evaluated and is recommended eligible for listing in the National Register under Criterion C as an example of an early Pennsylvania bridge type. Despite past repairs that did not include historically-sensitive treatments, such as repairing with concrete and poor masonry pointing, the bridge retains integrity and is significant as the last remaining four-arch masonry bridge in Northampton County.https://www.dot7.state.pa.us/…/SiteR…/H137084_123821_05D.pdf

Northampton County says it is not getting its fair share of funding for road and bridge improvement projects
This is a photo of the closed Meadows Road Bridge. The question is, would more funding make a difference in preserving the bridge?
wfmz.com Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure said he's tired of the county not getting its fair share of funding for road and bridge improvement projects.
Just got finished with the LVPC meeting regarding TIP funding. My question regarding the Meadows Road Bridge was partially addressed. It was stated that the bridge will never be opened to vehicle traffic again and that replacement does not necessarily mean it will be torn down. The preliminary engineering study has yet to be completed. This is the first time this has been publicly stated regarding the bridge not being able to be fixed or opened to traffic ever again.
I did get a message about not being able to get access to the meeting through the link. I believe the directions in the article to attend the meeting were incorrect and incomplete and I took them from an article on Lehigh Valley Live. I also believe the LVPC was in violation of the Sunshine Act. I left the meeting and could not get back in for a good 5 minutes. I will be following up personally with a phone call.

Preservation Pennsylvania has been monitoring the business in the House and HB 2004 was not considered on Wednesday, May 20. It will be carried forward to the agenda for May 26. There is still time to reach out to your PA legislator and urge them to vote "NO" on HB 2004 which would strip Keystone grant funding that is a valuable tool for preservation, parks, libraries and more all across Pennsylvania. (Note: for those confused by the terminology, "removed from the table" means the bill is active. "Laid on the table" means it has been tabled for later discussion.)
