I started this page to post updates and get the word out on HelpHopeLive fundraising events for my campaign. It's been awhile friends and beside posting an update, I definitely need to come up with a new page name!
I am very lucky to have received an amazing kidney. Immunosuppression and all the extra medicines have their downsides, and the past couple of years I have struggled with frequent viral illness, fractures, surgery, delayed healing, and a bit of diva AV fistula. πŸ˜‰ It is STILL such a blessing. I've watched Ruby grow, started to work in a field I love, and spent precious time with family and friends.
In order to keep myself going (and ideally fully return to health), I need to maintain health insurance, head back to Mayo for a check-up, make house updates to reduce the risk of environmental infections, and keep the lights on in the meantime. To that end, it's time to relaunch a fundraising campaign. Gulp. I welcome ideas for events and would love your help to get the word out when we have one on the books! A thousand thanks in advance. πŸ’

Wondering what the Ntaf stands for? It is National Transplant Assistance Fund, which is an organization that helps individuals with transplants and other life-changing illnesses and injuries fundraiser to cover the lifelong costs of maintaining (and ideally flourishing) with whatever health challenges come their way. I became familiar with NTAF prior to my transplant and was able to raise funds to cover transplant related expenses such as housing, travel, and medicine. NTAF changed their name to Help Hope Live a few years ago (helphopelive.org) to better reflect the diversity of the individuals they help.

It has been a long time since I've posted. Thankfully, I have been busy since my transplant on 2/1/2012. I finally started my dream career as an Occupational Therapist a year ago, celebrated many birthdays with Ruby, Sam, family, and friends. I am forever grateful for all the people that made my transplant possible. These past few months have been full of health challenges. I have temporarily stopped working to focus on my wellness and spending time with my friends and family. I am currently being seen at the Mayo Clinic this week in hopes of discovering some answers and a game plan to get back to living. We appreciate any prayers, kind thoughts, and loving support. Thank you!
