Hey everyone,
It's time to speak about GPSA elections again. Happening on 3/29 and 3/30 asu.edu/votenow.
Here you can see the core points of my platform.
Please let me know if you have questions.

19/03/2022

Good morning everyone!

Today is going to be about me, where I'm from and what I do in academia.

I'm Florian Arwed Schneider and I am from a small valley called the
"Ahrtal" in Germany. Weather always fascinated me (the picture below is fog in the small green valleys of Northwest Los Angeles), which is why I studied Meteorology in Leipzig, Germany and received a Bachelor and Master of Science. At that time I studied Climate Change in the Arctic using climate model data, thus a theoretical approach.

Once I graduated from my Masters I got the opportunity to work as a Fortran Programmer in the EarthCARE project of the European Space Agency. Still a theoretical approach, yet using remote sensing and basically a lens from afar to analyze what is happening on our beautiful earth.

The strong scientific interaction brought my passion for science back, yet I was missing the direct contact with the people and the science communication as well as how we can apply science to help those in need. I eventually started my PhD in Fall 2018 at ASU in the School of Sustainability.

Now I'm in my 4th year as a PhD candidate studying urban heat and heat mitigation strategies. The focus being on how we can create sustainable and equitable heat mitigation in cities, how those can be co-created and applied with cities and communities (transdisciplinary), and how the understanding of heat mitigation strategies differs in a holistic understanding.

My long-term goal is to advance the creation and application of usable, policy-relevant knowledge in a transdisciplinary co-production process.

I wish you all a great day and will be back tomorrow, when I'll share my platform!

Hey everyone!
Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) elections will be on March 29 and March 30, 2022. I will be posting parts of my presidential platform and about myself every day. Feel free to ask me questions and don't forget to vote!

Why am I running?

I'm an international student from Germany and am currently a 4th-year Ph.D. candidate in the School of Sustainability (SOS) which is part of the College of Global Futures (CGF) at Arizona State University (ASU). I was able to serve on and for GPSA for 3 years in parallel to my Ph.D. endeavor. I have been part of the GPSA assembly member since April 2019, where I served two years as an Assembly Member, representing SOS, and one year (currently) as the Director of Travel.
My initial interest and passion in the representation of my fellow students and the advocacy for their and my needs has not subsided. If elected, I want to advocate for the GPSA student body, leading and growing with my skillset that I have developed over time.
The role of the GPSA President asks for systems thinking, creative solutions, direct and also sometimes unapologetic communication, the ability to negotiate, and be steadfast but able to compromise!

I believe I have the leadership record and skillset to hold this office with accomplishment and continue the legacy of prior GPSA leaderships.
