Happy Organic (gluten-free) birthday Army Aviation. Above the Best!

Dear Members,

Eighty-one years ago on June 6, 1942, the War Department approved the establishment of Organic Army Aviation, resulting in the assignment of organic Army aviation assets in direct support of the Field Artillery and Army Ground Forces. The directives of 6 June 1942 placed two Piper-Cub light aircraft, two pilots and one mechanic in each light and medium field artillery battalion, each Division artillery headquarters and headquarters battery, and each Field Artillery brigade headquarters. These aviation assets were flown and maintained by Field Artillery personnel with the mission to provide air observation for the adjustment of artillery fire. The Department of Air Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and the office of Director of the Department of Air Training were also created on that same date, which we now recognize as the traditional birth date of Army Aviation.

Please join me in honoring, celebrating, and recognizing our incredible history and lineage….and the 81 years of dedicated and unwavering Army Aviation service in support of our Army Combat, Combat Support, and Combat Service Support Forces.

Above the Best,

MG Walt Davis, U.S. Army, Retired
36th President of AAAA
