Do you like to sew with jersey fabric?
Have you ever did it?
I did. And I will tell you why I like it.
First I was afraid of sewing something with jersey until I got my first French terry fabric.
And it was amazing!
I like its smooth soft surface from one side and loop from other.
French terry is an easy variety of any jersey fabric to sew with. It has less stretch than cotton jersey because of this french terry is relatively stable fabric to sew with. The edges of French terry will roll slightly but less than a cotton or lycra jersey.
There are 2 ways to sew French terry: sewing machine and overlocked machine.
With French terry be sure that you are using stretch stitch, zig zag stitch or special overlock feet.
French Terry sews especially well with an overlock machine. If you are professional tailor you’ll need to use one.
Because of its looped texture, it's difficult to seam rip stitches out of French Terry fabric. Be sure to align your seams correctly the first time when sewing with this type of fabric to avoid this frustration.

How I failed in my first sewing project
How I failed in my first sewing project
The white t-shirt supposed to be my first sewing project.
I went to Satwa to buy stretched jersey. It was quite difficult to find this fabric. Majority of Satwas’ stores have cotton blend jersey which is not stretched.
I have bought fabric looked like jersey with polyester. Honestly it was only what I found there.
I started to sew and have noticed that the fabrics surface started to get pills. I thought no problem I would wash it when I finished my t-shirt. Might be pills would be removed by water.
When I finished my t-shirt I put it on and suddenly figured out that it the fabric was so transparent and my bra was visible. So I was really disappointed. I have spent a lot of time to make it and probably couldn’t ever wear it.
I have decided that it could be worn at home. Then I washed it but pills were not gone. I was very sad and angry. But at least got some experience.
What I can say after all
please don’t buy fabric in a hurry. I was so excited to see my first t-shirt that forgot about proper checking fabric.
âś…Check fabric before buying
âś…Touch it. Touch it one more time to be sure that this is the one what you really need.
âś…Try to put it on sun light to check whether it transparent or not.
If you are sure that it matches with your expectations buy it.
I didn’t do all of this and I absolutely failed. My t-shirt is still in my wardrobe and I remember the lesson that I have took.

What would you like to sew from this list?
I will give you some simple ways to choose the right fabric for your project.
Experience has thought me a lot so I will share some tips here and my next posts.
1. SELECT YOUR PROJECT
To choose my new project I like to look for inspiration on Pinterest or multiple brands pages to make design in the most simple way.
Other one - is to choose ready pattern that what I am usually doing. You can modify it according to your needs or take it as it is. Ready pattern will make your life much easier.
2. DO RESEARCH.
Before buying any fabric you have to visualize which kind of fabric will look better with your project. Think about color and drape. You can make shopping without buying. Just looked around in the fabric shop and check what fabric are being used there.
3. ASSESS THE WIDTH
Fabric usually come in 2 or 3 different width – 60 inches (150cm) or 45 inches (112.5cm) being most common, and the width of your fabric will determine how much you will need to buy.
4. TEST THE STRETCH. Pull the fabric between your fingers to test the stretch. Most fabrics have an element of stretch, particularly when pulled on the cross (diagonal against the grain).
5. BUY. Finally buy your fabric and enjoy making your project.
Every time you are thinking how to combine colours to make them match in a ready outfit.
There are no strict rules to do it.
But what I realised is that only one rule will ever work with it: warm colours can be combined with other warm colours. Cold colours can be good with cold colours.
So take any two of them and compare. I am using this rule when I sewing something colourful. I did it when I created my collection for
Put ♥️ and next time I will tell you how to define cold and warm colours.
Hoodies still keep of being trending.
🔝
And it is long lasting trend.
Why? Because it is basic outfits. That means it can be matched with everything from your basic wardrobe. As well as with hijab.
Look at these samples. It is very easy to look stylish. Every day and every moment.
Just pick up one color which can combine in a total look and every day look will be amazing 🤩
Before selling any fabric I am testing it.
What kind of test?
First of all I wash it in warm water. Than it gets dry I iron and only after that then I sew something.
If fabric is good quality it will never shrunk. And you don’t have any problem while you are wearing clothes.
The second problem after washing is when fabric rolled.
It can happened if fabric’s fibre is thin. This feature you can check when you are buying it. Just check is it translucent. If yes, it means fibre is weak and thin.
