OMG.. it is finally done!! This one has been one of my favorite but the most challenging. Normally my journal covers are just that, covers for removable journals. This one is being added to a familes collection of journals with some dating back 150 years. The paper is in, the stones are attached.. on to the next project.

This is a story about a journal that started a journey 4 years ago. The first picture is when I finished the journal right before I sent it to New York.
During a bad break up, it found its way outside to a mud puddle. The removable journal was ruined, the owner had not used it yet so that part is easily replaced, but the life had been sucked out of the cover. The second pic is from the owner after she found her journal outside; she was devastated. She wanted to know if there was anything she could do or if the cover was done for, I asked if she would be willing to send it to me.
The third pic is after I removed all the rusty hardware and cleaned the journal with acetone. The leather was pretty stiff but it was in one piece.
The last two pics is after I used color shifting acrylic paint to redo the symbols on the front. Depending on how the light hits the paint, the color can look green or yellow. After sealing the symbols and the boarders with polycrylic, I re-died the journal, then applied heavy amounts of leather conditioner.
All and all... I think it turned out ok..

Well.. as 2020 has gone, expect nothing to go the way you expect. So expecting to have white elephant exchange with my family on Christmas Eve I did my first painting on canvas in like 25 years. In 2020 style our gathering will be very limited and no exchange. Renee said Merry Christmas to her, I said we could sell it to the highest bidder.... I got the stink eye... LOL.
Happy Holidays everyone, stay safe and enjoy yourselves.
