LISTENNNNNNN, if I see one more person design their book cover on KDP I'm gonna scream. If you know you are not a graphic designer, DO NOT DESIGN YOUR OWN BOOK COVER.

We have people for that. I'm one of those people or I can refer you to a great graphic designer. Some of yall using the graphic design title should not. Periodtttttttt.

Back to KDP. You should only be using KDP to upload to the Amazon platform, nothing more. Yes, they have a book designer on there, but I'm here to confirm it won't do your book any justice. The colors are saturated and too cookie-cutter. I would call it generic and broke. We want amazing and professional and most of all designed for your reader, your audience. You want them to feel like this speaks to them, not that you choose your favorite colors and u like it.

This is 2024, we have options now. Fiverr.com has some amazing graphic designers for a nice price. That's all I have. Get out your feelings and listen.

We need to normalize knowing our worth. In 2023 I was booked for my first speaking event. I was offered 4 figures to fly to Virginia and speak to people I did not know in a city I'd never been to. I didn't have a speaking reel or a media kit with all of my accolades. This person already knew the weight I carried in my industry.

After I returned home, I received a phone call with feedback from the attendees. She said everyone said I had the best presentation. She also reminded me that it was up from there.

Listen, stop focusing on likes and followers, and focus on your value and what you are bringing to the table. Some of us are the table and don't even realize it.

You're not being hired and paid for your voice, knowledge, and gifts simply because you are not presenting yourself as an expert. You've allowed people to dumb down your power. Stop that.

You don't need a degree to get paid in your industry, and you don't need to be a celebrity. Position yourself and confidently know you got this. Wake up and realize who you are. No one has the power to limit your worth unless you give it to them.

Your book is for a specific group of people. Do your research. Find out where they are hanging out. What’s the best platform to attract them you your voice and content?

Knowing who your reader is or let’s say who your book speaks to is crucial in the publishing process.

Saying your book is for everyone is CRAZY. I search Amazon for the kind of book I like to read. If you are writing about sci-Fi I would definitely not be your reader.

Urban fiction, self help and memoirs are my go to books.
