Soundtrack Composer, Experimental Musician and Maker of Sound Devices.
Apologies for the lack of posts recently. I've been very busy working on a lot of projects at once.
So to update you on upcoming things...
Wasterville and Amityville Trailer Park are in post production. Hopefully not long to go until they're released.
Skullcracker is mid production and Death Reciept has just begun filming.
I've also done some guitar tracks for Nat Mason of the Stuart Pearce Band, am compiling a batch of library music tracks and finishing a full album of very melancholic ambient recordings and a series of classical pieces.
If you haven't already, please add the shocking truth score to your playlists on Spotify...perfect for Halloween season.
Playing with my sons Kaleidoscope and droning a few synths over some old tape.
Rummaging through some boxes and found this.
It's a draft overhead projection sheet I used in small ensemble rehearsals for a piece I wrote about 25 years ago! I made many adjustments to the score over a month with the huge privilege of having the small ensemble present to make changes as it developed.
The piece and performances of it actually received some praise from Frank Denyer, particularly for its use of time based scoring.
Written for flute, two voices, saxophone, and gong.
At the time, I was interested in Capras 'Tao of Physics' book, and this definitely reflects in this piece. With its slow decaying gong hits, vocal textures which are intended to represent the emergence of life and its vulnerability in sustaining itself.
The woodwinds were chosen due to their connection with ancient instruments, which give the piece a sense of early human curiosity.
Performances were interesting to as the different spaces included very large cavernous halls and also intimate modern theatre. Completely adding new layers of interpretation depending on the decays created in a space.
The tempo was set in two ways. Firstly with a strict clock counting the seconds precisely. The second was without the regularity of the clock so performers had to imagine their own second counting. These second rounds were fascinating to me as I stood away from conducting, a second is how long you 'feel' it to be and going from strict tempo to free time really did make beautiful chaos.
I do intend to revisit this piece next year and film a performance of it because I think its pretty good!
I'm doing the music for this...
A throwback to the straight-to-video vigilante films of the 80s and 90s, DEATH RECEIPT is a tale of mistaken identity, a vicious attack on an unsuspecting family, violent gangs, and what happens when everything is taken away...and all that's left is vengeance.
AI is a blessing and a curse to creatives in all industries.
A curse because it will inevitably take jobs.
A blessing because I find it generates different thinking in the human creature process.
The prompt I typed in for this video: "Childrens film ends with joyous celebration as treasure is thrown into the air, saving the town from the bad guys"
I added a short piece I'd written for my son because he brings me so much happiness.
It fits quite well I think!
Skipping through around 5 seconds of each track from a film I've just finished and it's taken me nearly 6 minutes to listen back to.
Over 40 tracks if I release it as a complete album with a run time of around 75 minutes of music.
So a question for soundtrack collectors.
Do you prefer 100% complete scores, including all the unused cues...OR...do you prefer only the tracks that are included in the movie?
In this case I reckon there's around 15 minutes of music that didn't make the final cut.

Two pieces of news!
Firstly here is a very cool teaser poster for the Skullcracker movie I've been composing the music for.
Secondly my Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Shocking Truth soundtrack album is now available on all streaming platforms.
As I'm old skool and don't use music streaming, I don't know how it works as a listener.
So please could people do me a big favour by adding it to their playlists and as many shares on social media as possible! Scare Flair Records still have some copies of the vinyl for sale too!
Hope this is enjoyed!

Working on a new piece...
The Geologists (Are coming to town)...
Some cues just don't work out.
Light music was needed for a short scene intro but we went in a different direction on the end.
Learning curve for me though as I've never worked in this style before.
Those 1950s sitcom composers were so cool!
Film composer friends may relate to this sequence of facial expressions during mostly daily creative challenges 😅
A teaser for
Having a lot of fun scoring this one!
Nice review of Red Sport International by Stuart Pearce Band.
I guested some synths on this album. It's rather good!

Mr Ed Neal himself with a seal of approval!
La Vanguardia!
Enjoying the satisfaction of composing mad orchestral cue into to funkier landscape today.
Havent finished this one yet but I'm liking it.
Not looking forward to mixing it though and I apologise for the dusty board video...looks like I need to have a clean!
I set up a new official YouTube account to start taking some control over the stuff that's out there.
I've also added a few of playlists in an attempt to archive all the texas chainsaw videos and interviews etc that I've done over the last few years.
A subscribe and flick through the videos would be much appreciated to get things up and running!

New score I'm working on required some wall of sound/early 60s pop.
Working in this and have seriously considered turning my cellar into an echo chamber to capture those classic reverbs.
Its driving me nuts!
