Dalton State Communication Major
Dalton State Communication Department
Congratulations to the Spring 2024 graduates of Dalton State College! Your hard work and dedication have paid off. Here's to new beginnings and endless possibilities!
Happy Solar Eclipse Day! Dalton will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse starting at 1:48 pm and ending at 4:22 pm. The maximum view will be at 3:07 pm! If you want to watch the eclipse, be sure to wear eclipse glasses that are ISO-certified! Regular sunglasses are not protective enough! Also, do not look at the eclipse through a camera lens or your phone! The rays can burn through the lens and cause eye damage.
Fall 2024 Registration is Now Open! Be sure to contact your advisor if you need help with class registration.
Spring may have taken a break, but our students are back in full swing! Let's spring back into action, breaking new ground and making this post-break period our most vibrant yet.

The CDC has reached out to our campus with a unique initiative. They are working with our Dalton State RSO SACNAS (the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) to enhance their internship and career applicant pool diversity. The CDC wants to start this partnership by showcasing the array of career and internship opportunities available within their organization to our students. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with a leading public health institution and explore various career paths, extending well beyond the traditional STEM fields. This event offers a platform for students from various majors, including business, liberal arts, education, healthcare, and more, to learn about the diverse career options within the CDC. It's a chance to understand the organization's work, network with professionals, and discover how their skills and interests align with potential roles at the CDC. Be sure to attend this event today!

Edge of Town, filmed in 2021, tells the story of Summer Roome, whose world is up-ended when her adrift younger brother and wayward father re-enter her life. It is billed as a “spiritual sequel” to the earlier film, Down and Yonder. The film has won several awards, as listed on its IMDB.com page.

Hello All! send your friends this way for posts and news about the Communication program.
Congratulations to all of our amazing students who graduated last night at the 2023 Spring Commencement ceremony. We are so proud of each and every one of you and know that you will do great things in the working world. We wish you all the best as you take on this next chapter of your lives. Once a Roadrunner, always a Roadrunner. Congratulations Class of 2023!
Meet Mary Gray. Mary has a concentration in Film Studies. She says the best thing she has learned during her time at Dalton State is being a communication major means you learn how to enjoy public speaking. Her favorite part of being at Dalton State is the lifelong friends and connections she has made throughout the years.
Following graduation, Mary hopes to continue learning and growing her skills in video production and in the future hopes to work with a full service production company. Her career goal in 5 to 10 years is to be a Camera Operator or Director of Photography (DP) for a larger production organization.
A piece of advice Mary would give to a future Roadrunner is “Even if they are only taking a class for credit, these are going to turn out to be some of the best years of your life. So, why not take a moment to enjoy the journey? Additionally, don’t be afraid to ask for help. We are all here to learn and believe it or not, your professors want you to succeed. Lastly, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Sometimes you learn you have a lot more to offer and opportunities to find if you just take that step.”
Congratulations Mary!
Meet Clemencia Villafuerte. Clemencia has a concentration in Film Studies. She says the best thing she has learned since attending Dalton State is how to manage her time correctly. She says her favorite part about being at Dalton State are the activities that take place on the quad to destress, it made her feel like the school cared about students. Following graduation, Clemencia hope to pursue a career in Audio and Visual Post-Production.
A piece of advice Clemencia would give to a future Roadrunner is “Procrastinating will only get you so far! Just avoid the unnecessary stress and pain ahead.”
Congratulations Clemencia!
Meet Chelsea Ahrens. Chelsea has a concentration in Digital and Social Media. She says the best thing she has learned while attending Dalton State is just because you have a plan for yourself, doesn’t mean it will happen and that you have to allow yourself to remain flexible during your college years because so much changes from when you first start college at 18-years-old. Chelsea says her favorite part of being at Dalton State is how small and scenic the campus is. She hopes to pursue a career in either social media management or content creation for a company following graduation.
A piece of advice Chelsea would give to a future Roadrunner is to “Enjoy your college years and don’t rush them. It’s easy to wish that it will go by fast, but once it does you’ll wish that it hadn’t. Try to remain in the present and enjoy the ride that college brings, this is one of your biggest moments in life.”
Congratulations Chelsea!

Meet Gabriel Clark. Gabriel has a concentration in Organizational Communication Leadership with a minor in Marketing. He says the best thing he has learned while attending Dalton State is that success in college and in life is about consistently doing work and that short spurts of high motivation are nice, but its the ability to do a little bit each day, even when you don’t want to, that allows you to succeed.
Gabriel says his favorite part of being here at Dalton State is being able to enjoy the small-school feel while still being challenged and learning as much as he would at a larger university.
Following graduation, he hope to pursue a career in marketing, specifically he wants to work at a small to mid-size marketing firm so that he can have creative input while enjoying plenty of room for growth both inside the company and a professional.
A piece of advice Gabriel would give to a future Roadrunner is to “Keep pushing, regardless of how much you want to quit! You can turn anything into success if you just keep showing up. Take things one step at a time and try not to look at the bigger picture too often. Keep working and one day you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come!”
Congratulations Gabriel!
Meet Lillian Dorries. Lillian has a concentration in Digital and Social Media. She says the best thing she has learned while attending Dalton State is that it’s not always about staying on track, but about making connections and experiences that will help you along the way.
Lillian’s favorite part of being at Dalton State is how much the professors and faculty truly care about students and their learning process and doesn’t think that there is a school as caring as ours. She also loves the leaves during fall and how beautiful it makes the campus. Following graduation, she wants to be a media specialist but wants to start teaching to help open that door.
A piece of advice Lillian would give to a future Roadrunner is “Don’t be scared to talk to your professors! They are understanding and want to help you succeed. They are the coach on your team, not the competition!”
Congratulations Lillian!
With the end of the semester drawing near and graduation becoming close to a week a way, we wanted to take some time to spotlight the seniors who are graduating this semester over the next week. These seniors have worked so hard and we are so incredibly proud of them as they get ready to move on to the next adventure.
With that, Meet Emily Padgett. Emily is a Generalist Concentration. She says the best thing she’s learned while attending Dalton Sate is that she is capable of a lot more than she gives herself credit for and that through all the confusion and struggle there was an end and it is bittersweet. Her favorite part of being at Dalton State is being able to connect with the people around her more intensely than she would if she had went to a larger school. If she ever needed help, everyone she talked to was willing to give her an answer and made her feel heard and seen.
Following graduation, Emily hopes to pursue new adventures. She wants to find things that make her the happiest and explore every aspect of them. She eventually would love to work towards becoming a school counselor but plans to take her time in becoming her most genuine self first.
A piece of advice Emily would give to a future Roadrunner is to “Take one day at a time. As tempting as thinking about how great everything once you graduate is, be in the moment. Remember that this is a part of your life you will look back on. Make the memories that you want to feel the happiest, accomplished and fulfilled. You’re allowed to be happy.”
Congratulations Emily!
Happy first day of finals everyone! We can’t believe how fast this semester has flown by. We know you guys will do great on your finals this week! Summer is just around the corner. Good luck Roadrunners!
