Featured Question Friday: Lottery Funds and Selling Sites
FEATURED QUESTION FRIDAY: WHAT ABOUT STATE LOTTERY FUNDS AND CAN THE DISTRICT SELL CLOSED SITES?
Due to popular demand, we are answering two of your most asked questions today. Next week, we will answer your questions about a Citizens Oversight Committee. Quick answers below. Full answers on our campaign website (link also below).
WHAT ABOUT STATE LOTTERY FUNDS?
Just 1% of state lottery funds are set aside for school districts and that small amount is divided between 1,000+ school districts. The amount Rim gets accounts for less than 2% of the annual budget.
CAN THE DISTRICT JUST SELL CLOSED SCHOOL SITES?
The short answer is no, not easily. The process is long and even if the district could easily sell properties, the revenue would have to be spent according to specific guidelines. Additionally, the sale of district properties wouldn't raise anywhere near the revenue needed to cover the $75m in facilities needs our district has currently.

Did you know that our local school district could qualify for state matching funds? Only if Measure A passes though!
In order to tap into state facilities programs, a school district must put up matching funds. This is realistically only possible if a local school district has a local bond in place to put up the match.
Without Measure A, our district couldn't even qualify for these types of programs. Measure A gives us a fighting chance to secure additional funding.

Rim Of The World Presented With Report From Eide Bailly Auditing Firm
When Michelle Murphy became superintendent, one of her first actions was to refinance Measure W - which was passed more than a decade ago now. In ensuring fiscal responsibility, the refinance will deliver more than $1.8 MILLION in taxpayer relief to the community.
All savings from the refinancing go to the taxpayers. The District will not receive any additional funds from the refinance savings.
Rim's Chief Business Official, Jenny Haberlin, has also played a key role in ensuring all funding is spent appropriately and in compliance with state and federal standards.
