Pt 1/2 Bruce Mitchell - Jazz, Rock & Roll, and The Cavern 21/02/2021

**New Episode - Bruce Mitchell**

Bruce is Mr Manchester. He started a jazz club as a teenager, saw Bill Haley and The Comets in 1957, and played at all 3 versions of The Cavern Club before/during/after beatlemania.

As a performer he supported or was supported by Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, The Who, The Police, The Stranglers and Blondie.

As a roadie, and later production manager, he worked with The Who, New Order, and The Stone Roses amongst others.

He is one of the key players in Factory Records in Manchester, managing and later performing with The Durutti Column for 40 years, and his business partner (and flatmate) was the music producer Martin Hannet.

Throughout this he also runs a hire business, supporting shows all over the city with equipment. If you have ever played a show in Manchester, the chances are that Bruce had hand in it somewhere.

He is the hippest 80 year old you could meet, and is regularly seen at festivals and shows, dressed in cravat, fedora hat and monocle. You can engage him about Miles Davis or techno.

Bruce talks about touring in the 60's, PA or lack of it, and the psychology of working with musicians.

Pt 1/3 Mark Coyle - The man who made Oasis loud 15/12/2020

Mark Coyle - A pivotal engineer whose work has arguably influenced British music for the last 25 years, but has been interviewed only twice. And this is one of those times.

He mixed live for Oasis, The Stone Roses and Inspiral Carpets. He recorded Definitely Maybe. Then he quit at the crest of the wave. And when it comes to music he has moral principles set in concrete.

It wasn't easy tracking him down, and it wasn't straightforward to persuade him to speak, but all I can say is: I hope he writes a book one day!
