As I’m preparing for our Austin retreat, I am filled with giddy, hopeful anticipation.

I remember when I first set aside extended time — away from my family, chores, and work — and how nervous and guilty I felt. How would the kids get on without me? Would Brad become resentful of my absence? Was I being selfish?

Yet, that still, small Voice whispered, “I am jealous for you. Come away with Me.”

I accepted the invitation.

It was a marker in my relationship with Him and I came back different.

Oh how much I didn’t know, how much I know now, how much more I have to discover.

The going away rarely feels easy for me (I actually can’t think of a time when it was) but I can’t fully know Him (or myself) without stripping away my roles, titles, and demands for a bit. When I am away, the access seems easier and I can see more clearly.

Brad and I have always known to prioritize our marriage. Our love is stronger and more intimate because we have. Why would it be any different with the One who loves us so completely, Who we claim to love more than anything?

Time, space, and intention are great ingredients for a union. Will you accept the invitation?
