Tea, Cake and Singing
Singing for wellbeing circles for LGBTQ+ folks π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈπ
Ahh, what a good sing we had! Probably too many words again - I got excited!!
We'll take it down a notch again next time π
And I will sing this song
And I will raise up to the night sky
And I will sing this song
I do believe I'm back on solid ground
I do believe I'm back on solid ground
Solid Ground
~ Lisa Hunter
This is another one that I love sharing. I think it was one of the ones we did at the first Tea, Cake and Singing group at Lovelocks and it's been brilliant to hear how it has evolved as the group has grown.
I love the harmonies in this, and the sentiment. Raise your voice up to the sky and feel the ground beneath you as you sing...

I wanna know... what love is
Oh oh-oh
I want you to show me
I wanna feel... what love is
Oh oh-oh
I know you can show me
~Foreigner
Arranged for voice by Ellie Holiday
This is a song I love sharing - it's familiar so it doesn't take too long to learn, and the harmonies are so so satisfying!
We sing for connection, not perfection - if this sounds like your jam then come along to the next one!
Monday 25th March, 6:30-8:30pm at Lovelocks Coffee Shop
Β£5 per person, all q***r voices welcome π

What a great sing we had yesterday!
Thank you so much to everyone who came along - to those of you who came for the first time and to those who came back!
Looking forward to the next one already π

I somehow managed to duplicate the event page for the next group - no idea how!
I have cancelled one of the duplicates so I don't get myself confused. It's definitely still on!
See!
We'll keep saying it - it's good to sing!
Sing for the brain ππΌ
A new study from Exeter University confirms that playing a musical instrument and singing has multiple benefits for the brain and brain health as we get older, improving executive function and harnessing cognitive reserve.
In an article in todayβs Guardian, professor Anne Corbett said βour findings indicate that promoting musical education would be a valuable part of public health initiatives to promote a protective lifestyle for brain health, as would encouraging older adults to return to music in later life.β
Keep singing, and playing, folks!
Thank you for coming and sharing your voices last night!
I left with a big contented grin on my face and I hope you felt the same.
I'm in the process of fixing a date for February - if I can figure out how to put a poll on here I will share the options and see which is the most popular. It helps me to plan songs when I have an idea of numbers!
Keep Singing ππ΅π³οΈβππΆπ³οΈββ§οΈπ΅
Brilliant article in todayβs Guardian about the mega-bonding effects of singing.
This is something I see in my work every single day and so itβs GREAT for it to be celebrated in the mainstream press (and by a leading science writer).
Thereβs some great perspectives in here, especially this from Professor Robin Dunbar:
βSinging is one of the mega-mechanisms we use for bondingβ¦. when doing it communally, thereβs something about the synchrony of singing that creates this massive endorphin uplift.β
Letβs keep singing and connecting ππΌ

Come and sing with me

One Good Thing: how the simple act of singing could boost your mental health βThe emphasis is on how it feels for the people taking part, not how it sounds to people listening.β
Singing is the ultimate connector.
Thank you for these beautiful words.
Letβs keep singing β¨
