If you feel like you’re particularly “sensitive” to carbohydrates then this is for you!
I do not believe everyone should eat the same amount of carbohydrates.
Yes the most important thing for fat loss is still total calories (energy in vs. energy out) but if you feel like s**t and can’t focus then eating in an energy deficit is going to be pretty difficult!
This is why I believe many people should instead be prioritizing healthy fats and proteins.
🚨If you find it difficult and confusing to determine your carb intake, then our FREE newsletter, and/or THRIVE 1.0 might be for you!
We’ve been discussing the best ways to determine your macronutrient intake. Including the ‘carb test’, how your body type factors in (endo/ecto/mesomorph), common “stress responses” to foods and more!
THRIVE takes it a step further and gives you a step by step guide for doing all this.

EPISODE 10 is LIVE!
Young and old athletes alike often train UNINTENTIONALLY and WITHOUT A PLAN, often doing extra volume that what is required and causing more harm than good.
What are we talking about? We are talking about causing burn out (both mental and physical), increasing risk of injury, disrespecting strength progressions and failing to make necessary sacrifices for 'growth'.
We also talk about how foods and general macronutrients should fluctuate based on time of season. For instance, fats higher in the OFF season to build and repair hormones, joints, and overall health...enjoy the episode!

What’s the MOST important thing for recovery?
Let’s quickly define it first. In this sense, I mean your ability to recover in between sets, workouts, events, shifts on the ice or field, and I’m between games...
It’s not what you might guess....not nutrition, not all the fancy “mobility tools”, not sleep *(but sleep QUALITY is effected by what I’m about to tell you).
It’s heart rate. Having a constantly elevated heart rate quite simply requires more energy and places more demand on your entire body and brain, eventually leading to some type of “burn out”, whether that’s short term or long term depends.
Eating foods you have a sensitivity to elevates heart rate and impairs recovery.
Tracking sleep? Your worst sleeps will be the ones when heart rate is high.
Can’t recover between events or shifts or periods? Your heart rate is probably staying high.
Always sweaty and feeling anxious? You get the point.
This is why BREATHING PROPERLY and BREATHING EXERCISES are so darn important.
Yes mindfulness. And it also optimizes hormonal patterns and makes your brain bigger. Literally.
Do you have a mindfulness routine?

EPISODE 9 on is LIVE!
Chett’s shares his experience while experimenting with this radical way of eating.
We discuss HOW and WHY he has experienced such extreme mental clarity.
We share stories of others reversing and even ‘curing’ with this way of eating.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?
It’s two fold: 1) it puts you in ketosis, but perhaps more importantly is 2) you’re removing ALL potentially INFLAMMATORY FOODS from your diet!
Yup, this includes fruits and veggies too! Shocking right? Take a listen to get the details!
Side note: Chett also has not farted since starting the diet 💩

EARN YOUR RIGHT TO COMPETE
Competing isn’t for everyone. And it definitely isn’t for everyone to win.
In most sports, there is a clear qualification process to earn the right to compete.
For example, to make a hockey team you tryout, make the team, go to practice, learn systems and skills, apply and refine systems over a pre season, regular season, playoffs, then for 2 teams only - the championship. It is a very clear line.
The point is, athletes competing at the highest level in the sport and at the most prestigious part of the year have EARNED that right in their “training” (pre, season, playoffs etc). Their bodies and minds have had the time to work, recover, adapt and progress continually over time to get resilient and proficient enough to compete.
You can’t just sign up for the Championship. You EARN your spot.
Do you feel this is the same in the Sport of Fitness? Comment on this post with your opinion ⬇️⬇️⬇️
This will be a podcast topic in the near future

CAN YOU CREATE A PROGRAM BASED ON BODY COMP MEASUREMENTS?
Short answer: Yes!
It is very common for people, although with good intentions, completely miss the mark with this one
For example: How many of us have used “sweating” as a measurement of a “weight loss program”?
This is by far the biggest misconception I’ve come across and have had some tricky conversations about it.
We’ve talked about this a lot on the podcast but at the end of the day properly prescribed Resistance Training is the LONG TERM answer to all body composition goals. Combine it with a fuel and lifestyle that matches your goal (gaining or losing) and BAM! 💥 Success!
General rule for success:
75% Weightlifting
25% Skill/Sweat stuff at a moderate effort

BECOME A METABOLICALLY FLEXIBLE BEAST!
It’s common for athletes to have their carbs dialled in. But many overlook the importance of fat.
Carbs are great for “acute” or immediate performance, but fats are required for “long term” performance.
Prevention of injury and joint pain via inflammation 🔥, recovery and resiliency via hormonal regulation, all the essential vitamins and minerals high in fats. You name it.
The classic example is competition..... Your nerves are high and you’re crushing quick carbs all day. Maybe you’re running to the bathroom before every event. Before you know it, it’s the end of the day and you’re cramping up because you crapped 💩 out all your electrolytes.
All because you had to constantly rely on those quick carbs for energy. If only you were more METABOLICALLY FLEXIBLE, and fat adapted; then you could be converting your own body fat into energy.
Strategic high fat days should be implemented into nutrition plans for serious athletes.
