Felted Fable
Original fibre art by Joanna Ridley.
It’s not autumn until the first pumpkin is felted. 🎃
Finally sorted out the problem I was having uploading pictures to Etsy. This one and the cougar are both now listed, link in bio. I’ll be adding the rest over the next few days so if there is something you’ve seen on here that you’re interested in just send me a message.
Cougar finally has whiskers and is framed. Whiskers are hard!
I’ve been trying to come up with an easy organized system for storing all my wool. This is what I’ve come up with...it will take a while to use up enough TP and paper towel to get it all sorted but looking in the one drawer I’ve finished is very satisfying!
Woke up to a beautiful snowy day! I’ve got a fabulous four day weekend ahead of me so I’ll be finishing all my recent pieces and getting them@ framed. I put a few finishing touches on this one and it’s now finished. Everything new will be listed in my Etsy shop update on February 24th.
Getting there...
Day 2’s progress. It’s a drizzly grey day today so making the most of my poor light. I’ll be at this one probably for the rest of the week.
Today’s WIP.... I decided to leave that little squirrel for a few days to get a fresh eye. Felt (pardon the pun) the need to get into a bigger piece. I bit of a struggle with the fur colour but I think it’s starting to come together. Hope everyone is having great weekend!
Current WIP, sharing since its squirrel day today. He still needs some fiddling but almost there.
Happy 🐿 day!
Trees are now added so this little guy has somewhere cosy to sleep. Few minor little tweaks and then he’ll be finished. I’ll frame him this weekend and then he’ll be available in my Etsy store when I reopen next month.
This poor little fellow needs a background, right now he looks all alone on the prairie... trees to follow as well as some more work on his little nose and mouth.
I think they’re finished! Just a titch of tacking down some looser areas tomorrow and that’s it, time to frame them!
Whale faces in the works. Great start to a day off. The sun is even out today!
Current work in progress, hoping to finish this one this weekend and then I have to decide how best to frame it. The wet felted background was an adventure, looking forward to trying more of these in the new year.
Thought his background was looking a bit blah, so darkened it up. He still needs a bit more feather fixing.
This little quail is still in the studio waiting patiently for some tootsies.
He’s now been abandoned by all of his friends, who are now for sale on Fort Street. Hope you’ll check them out, and don’t feel too bad for this one... he’ll get some feet this weekend and then he’ll be ready for his own adventure!
Finally finished this fellow. This week he’ll be framed and I’ve put in an order for a small batch of cards so fingers crossed they turn out well.
This foxy fellow is almost complete. Still some work on his legs and tail needed and then I’ll be framing him.
All finished and ironed. Just submitted an order for greeting cards, this is my first time trying them so fingers crossed they turn out well. This one will be framed and available shortly.
Think this one is done! Will frame it this evening. Wool on linen fabric.
Latest work in progress, little fawn.
This little quail is finally coming together... some more work on his bottom and ground needed. Enjoying having this crisp holiday Monday to work on him.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Finished this fox last night. Whiskers gave me a challenge!
Current work in progress... all these little spots and feathers are going to take me awhile...
I’m calling this wolf done. I still have to take a lint roller to the background, and will let him stay on the foam for another day in case I spot something I want to fiddle with.
Hitting that messy awkward stage. Still a lot of fur left to add.
My long weekend project... will be 10x10 when complete. What do you think it is?
Maybe a few rogue fibres to tack down but otherwise I think this one is finished! Needle Felted onto wool fabric.
Lots more work on this warbler and his surroundings but getting there. I’ve taken a few days off the Pheobe family but will get back to them this weekend.
Finally got this handsome fellow framed. He’ll be included in my Etsy shop reopen happening today in 2 1/2 hours.
Still a bit of work needed on the bottom birdie’s feathers but getting there! I’ll tackle the mother bird this weekend.
Etsy shop reopening tomorrow at 2 pm PDT. Link in bio above.
Feathers being added, trying to find that right balance between fluffy and detail.
Pheobe family is coming together!
Work in progress, needle felted on wool background. 8x10 inches.
Working on a new, bigger piece; this is one of three baby Black Pheobe birds waiting for their lunch.
I’m hoping to have it completed in time for my shop reopen/update on the 11th. Lots to do between now and then!
Mini Jasper has been delivered to his lovely mom.

I always love seeing these cheerful little guys. Another creation for my store update next month. More birds to come, they’re addictive!
Not the same type of birdies but I think they’d get along.
Whiskers for this fellow and his friend and then waiting for their hoops to arrive for framing. If they arrive in time these will be included in the July 11th shop update. Fingers crossed!
I’ve been on a fox phase lately, this one is coming together and should be finished today, with the exception of his whiskers.
I’m going to push back the shop update for 3 more weeks, as I’m waiting for some hoops in the mail and some felt backing needed to finish another price. New date will be July 11th. More updates coming soon!
