Henry Kramer, piano
The official page of pianist Henry Kramer.
Last summer my father recorded his first album in Phoenix. He has been playing guitar and writing songs ever since I can remember. When he asked me to arrange his song “Wounded Flower” for piano and violin, I asked my dear friend if she would play on the recording. Thank you, Chee, for bringing this song to life with your beautiful playing! You can stream my dad’s album at the link in my bio.

Ok, , you were pretty cool!
Thank you and Tim Christie for such a great week out in Washington wine country. And thank you to my amazing parents for making the trek from Maine for Brahms Sonatas and wine tastings!
Back in beautiful Geneva this week!
Columbus Georgia come say hi!
Loved having my mom tag along this week in Philly
Really excited to play my first performance of Smetana’s devastating piano trio this Thursday Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Gary Hoffman and Karen Su! He wrote this after the death of his daughter and the last movement (here I am practicing it furiously) is a kind of “death tarantella”
Very excited for this tour which will also include stops at the Phillips Collection in Washington DC and the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.

I've been reading so many beautiful tributes to the great (recently passed) Maurizio Pollini, and have been struck by several characterizations of his playing as detached and architectural (influenced by his father who was a modernist architect..)
As I sit here listening to his Chopin Nocturnes recording, I of course hear the architecture, but hardly anything detached or objective. In these mystifying pieces Pollini’s transcendent abilities at the piano express truths so pure that only music could identify them. Thank you for taking us to the cosmos Maestro Pollini. May you rest in peace!
Spring schedule is up. Hope to meet you somewhere!

Thank you for having me back to celebrate Miriam Fried’s incredible 30 years as the leader of this incredible learning institute. I couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring team than and to perform trios by Haydn and Ravel. Also got to reunite with so many friends and especially my teacher Julian Martin, who I was too busy catching up with that I forgot to take a picture. Miriam leaves an incredible legacy in the halls of the Harza Building. Thank you also to the for a deeply moving Schubert G Major, to the Steans fellows for incredible performances, and also to the staff who make sure everything runs perfectly. Such a great week!
Thank you for a beautiful week at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. I felt so lucky to hear such incredible talent from the young pianists in session. Also wonderful to see Eric Le Sage after so many years and experience his artistry up-close performing Schubert’s Fantasy. Can’t wait to return!

Thank you to the Boston Musical Intelligencer for this glowing review of Stella Chen and my recital yesterday at Newport Classical!
“Henry Kramer, a distinguished soloist in his own right, showed himself as an exceptional collaborator, strong and secure, with a clear and singing tone, he could step forward and lead in those passages where the piano predominated, yet had the ability also to hold back and offer support without ever overpowering the violin. As an ensemble, the duo shared a finely nuanced approach to the variety of light and dark moods that the program offered. Chen and Kramer met at the Juilliard School and have been performing together since then to create a finely honed ensemble, technically precise and musically dynamic, coupled with innovative and creative programming that made for a most memorable evening.”
Newport Seasons Advance - The Boston Musical Intelligencer Newport Classical concluded the second season of its year-round Chamber Series Friday in a glowing and powerful recital by violinist Stella Chen and pianist Henry Kramer at Emmanuel Church in Newport.
