He is the Goblin King. Well - one of the Goblin Kings. Jacob Thayer is one of the founding fathers of Hobby Goblins, which started as a humble hobby group and has grown into an 40k movement, while remaining humble!
In this conversation, the more Steve tries to push on Jacob that he is incredibly talented, the more he puts it all at the feet of his team. But while he's not accepting the accolades - he absolutely deserves them. Seriously. Google Jacob Thayer Orks and see his work. It's ridiculous.
Anyway - we hope you enjoy this chat - he's the man with the golden voice.
Stat Check: Champions of 40k - Ep 9 - Jacob Thayer, Hobby Goblin Champions of 40k is a podcast that seeks to celebrate the people that make our hobby great. Hosted by Steve Joll. What is true love? And is there such a thing as love at first sight? These don't sound like very Warhammer questions - but they can be.
In this episode Steve Joll and Jake Harding talk about his journey in 40k, and also finding that army that you completely fall for. Each of us gets to that place of loving a faction in a different way. This is, partly, the story of how Jake found Votann.

The hobby of 40k has introduced me to some of the nicest people I've ever met anywhere. One of those people is Stig from Tabletop Tactics. He was an early supporter of my podcasts, and is always one of the first to like or share the nonsense I post to instagram.
In this episode the man - who didn't earn his Ad Mech sounding nickname the way you think he did - talks to me about life before 40k, when a career as a rock n roll drummer beckoned, whether he gets recognised as a celebrity while out and about, how he fell into the famous job, and what it's really like working with Lawrence and co at Tabletop Tactics.

As we enter the transitional period from pre and post Votann, and an imminent Balance Dataslate, the Stat Check team is launching our Meta Report Series. Once a month we'll be releasing a look at the meta, as well as an associated Tier List.
We've pushed this one out for the Swan Song event of the current meta, the London Grand Tournament, with a look to what we expect to see doing well there, as well as to provide a point of comparison for the changes that the new releases and updates force on the game.
The tier list, as well as our meta breakdown and an explainer for the concepts within can be found here: https://www.stat-check.com/blog/stat-check-meta-report-september-2022
If you'd like to see more of our stats, check out the other tabs on the website or tune into the show, Tuesday Evenings.
Thanks, Innes and the rest of the Stat Check Team
Good morning from hot and humid Philadelphia! After a brief hiatus last week (due to a family trip to Puerto Rico), the dashboard's back and updated! Keep in mind that the dashboard now has four sections:
- Meta Data Overview: the original overall look at the current 40k meta
- Win Rate - Veteran by Casual: scatter plot that gives us hints about the skill floors and ceilings of each faction
- Win Rate Trends: A line graph that displays accumulated performance over time. Think of it as all the Meta Mondays placed into a single visualization - gives us performance trends for all factions.
- Faction v. Faction Win Rate + Score Matrix: your standard data table showing average score differences for all faction matchups.
A reminder that mouseover and selecting any faction icon will provide additional information about that faction on all the charts, and that all results can be filtered using the options at the top.
Stat Check - 40k Meta Data Dashboard: https://www.stat-check.com/the-meta
The good news: Nephilim's ruleset appears to have produced the most balanced meta we've yet seen experienced in 9th edition. Previous high flyers like (non-Leviathan) Tyranids and Craftworld Eldar have been brought back down to earth, with a few underperformers in the marine supplement universe still struggling.
Additionally, you can literally see faction performance beginning to converge in the 40% to 60% Win Rate range. That's admittedly very broad, but also much better than any Nachmund's meta iterations.
We've also got updated CRS Scores - our way of ranking competitive 40k's players based on both player skill *and faction strength, and updated Faction Elo ratings, which we also weight by player skill.

As we roll up to the WTC we're hoping to put out some pre, during and post content, that starts tomorrow with our WTC Newcomers Round Table with a host of event first timers giving us the run down on their prep, hopes and dreams for the event.
Hello Everyone,
First we wanted to thank everyone for joining us on our journey into making a podcast, a stats hub, and a whole bunch of content. Second, we wanted to thank all of you and celebrate the fact that we've hit our first (hopefully of many) milestone by hitting 50 patrons. Thank you everyone, we hope you look forward to all the content we will be producing alongside a revamped website and a few other surprises of course. Just so everyone knows what extra content is coming out for patrons:
Innes and Outs, where Innes interviews folks about their warhammer 40K experiences. The first episode of this is available for patrons right now!
WTC Draft, in which the team drafts WTC teams (some of us doing so badly). This is available now and you can create a draft of your own on the discord to one up us.
Anthony Learns by Suffering: Math Edition, we've got a syllabus put together and this will start being recorded and released for patrons after WTC. Once per month you can look forward to a 30-ish minute lesson where Nathan teaches Anthony math. If there's another topic you want to see next let us know on the discord by joining the Anthony Learns by Suffering tier.
Again I want to thank everyone for supporting us and we look forward to bringing you all even more content and analysis.
Sincerely,
The Stats Check Team

Stat Check: Episode 1 - I Didn't Hear No Bell Join Innes, Anthony, and Nathan as they discuss the Warhammer 40,000 meta, their new show, and why the Chaos Space Marine codex has more power than people may be thinking.
Week in and week out there's 40k happening. Stat Check exists to be your buffer against all of that by providing everything from high level commentary on the meta and game design from some of the best players in the world, irreverent takes on things only we care about, and a wholesale disregard for anyone who says that simplicity doesn't work. Only two things are guaranteed: we'll talk about the week in stats, and the show is 90 minutes long.
Anthony, Innes, and Nathan take to the live stream at 10pm UTC/6PM EDT every Tuesday. The show is available on YouTube and anywhere podcasts can be found.
Also on our website you can find the Stat Check Meta Dashboard which can provide both at-a-glance and in depth statistics covering the full breadth and depth of the 40k meta, and the Competitive Rankings Scores, which are a faction weighted "Elo Like" score that looks at both the quality of your opponents and the respective power of players armies to determine your competitive ranking. Jeremy and Cliff are the curators of the behind the scenes on stats and update every week.
We're incredibly excited to get started on a new project, and hope you're all looking forward to coming along for the ride.
