EDJI Gallery is delighted to announce the inaugural solo exhibition of recent La Cambre graduate Tatiana Gorgievski, opening on September 4th, 2024, in Brussels. Titled âLâinconnuâ, this exhibition will showcase works created during her years of study in painting at lâENSAV La Cambre (Brussels), through which the French artist explores the theme of mystery and the unknowable.
Through a series of enigmatic paintings, Tatiana invites us to experience the intensity of the unknown in its multiple dimensions, whether in the palpable presence of a familiar strangeness, the deep and anonymous gazes of nameless portraits, or the unpredictable creative process where matter meets raw emotion. This exhibition does not merely reveal images; it invites us on a sensory and introspective journey, where mystery becomes a gateway to wonder and silent contemplation.
Save the date for the opening preview : Wednesday, September 4th, 2024 at 15 rue du Page, 1050 Brussels, and sign up on www.edjigallery.com to stay up to date.
In âUna Pausa Luminosa,â Carlos RodrĂguez masterfully captures the essence of timeâs passage, inviting viewers into a contemplative realm where the pace of life is to be savored, not hurried. This exhibition is a serene yet powerful call to reflect and pause, urging us to embrace life at its own rhythm. The recurring symbols in his work are more than mere motifs; they are metaphors that resonate with universal truths.
The snail, with its unhurried crawl, embodies resilience and patience, a gentle reminder that progress, no matter how slow, is still progress. The sun, a luminous emblem of growth and joy, infuses each piece with warmth and the promise of new beginnings, highlighting the daily renewal inherent in the passage of time. The fruits, in its various stages of ripeness, elegantly symbolizes the rewards of hard work and perseverance.
This imagery speaks volumes about the slow maturation of effort into success, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the journey over the destination. Through these symbols, RodrĂguez crafts a visual narrative that is both meditative and inspiring, inviting us to find beauty in lifeâs natural rhythms. âUna Pausa Luminosaâ is a testament to the art of living deliberately, celebrating the quiet triumphs and sweet outcomes that come from patience and dedication.

This piece beautifully intertwines the natural and the mystical, guiding us through a narrative of resilience and growth.
Central to Rodriguezâs oeuvre are recurring symbols: the snail, embodying resilience and patience; the sun, representing growth and joy; and the fruit, symbolizing the rewards of hard work and moments of communal appreciation. These themes invite viewers to contemplate and reflect on the cyclical nature of life and the importance of perseverance.

âChoosing oneâs own mask is the first human voluntary gesture. And it is lonely.â
â Clarice Lispector
Masks create new identities, interrupt daily life, break power relations and suggest unusual possibilities as they transcend human reality by reminding us that our immediate preoccupations are governed by forces greater than ourselves.
To wear a mask is a ritual to experiment and invent beyond social and gender needs. The masks open a window for hybridization inside or outside of this world, through birth or death, of early age or of maturity. They are living potential for the disorder.

This project came to life through the creation of masks crafted from materials found in the vicinity of two locations visited by the artist: Hacienda Guadalupe, nestled in the Oaxaca Valley, and San Agustinillo, a charming coastal town in Oaxaca. The masks were realized from a diverse array of materials, including wood, mud, shells, bones, feathers, and other discarded âtreasuresâ. After their creation, GarcĂa-Villa photographed the masks being worn by models from Oaxaca, bringing the project full circle. Through ĂNIMAS, the artist merged two of his most beloved passions: the male body and Anti-fashion, resulting in a truly enriching experience.

In the studio with Carlos RodrĂguez đ
Rodriguezâs approach to painting is as tactile as it is immersive, bringing together every element of the creative process, from washing, cutting, and stretching his linen by hand, to preparing rabbit-skin glue and mixing his pigments.
In his most recent series of works, this meticulous process is represented through scenes of men engaging in rituals of harvest and embodying the patience, dedication, and resilience that Rodriguez has embraced as he explores the artisanal facets of his practice.
This series will be exhibited as part of our upcoming summer exhibition, Une Pausa Luminosa, together with Gustavo GarcĂa-Villaâs photographic exhibition, Ănimas. Join us for the opening on Wednesday, June 26th, 6 pm-9 pm at 15 rue du Page, 1050 Brussels.

His exhibition, titled âĂnimasâ, will accompany Carlos RodrĂguezâ solo show as part of our summer exhibition, opening Wednesday 26th of June.

Born in La Paz, Baja California Sur, northern Mexico in 1981, Gustavo GarcĂa-Villa graduated with honors from the University of Guadalajara with a degree in Graphic Design.
One of the most restless creative minds in Mexico, Gustavo Garcia-Villa works with costume design as well as art direction, fashion styling, illustration, and photography. He has worked as a Creative Director for lâOfficiel, has published books and magazines, and collaborated with several brands (Jil Sander, Zara, Calvin Klein, Levi´s, Apple, etc.) and media publications (Vogue, Elle, Carnal). He also has a clothing brand created from recycled materials called SUNK ().
In this exhibition Gustavo GarcĂa-Villa will be presenting âĂNIMASâ, which reviews the creation of masks from materials found around Oaxaca, in two different locations -where he has documented the pieces through his photography.
This photographic exhibition follows the release of his book, by the same title, at the Standard in NYC earlier this month. EDJI is very excited to be the first gallery to present this highly anticipated collection of photography worlwide.

In âUna Pausa Luminosaâ, or A Luminous Pause, Carlos Rodriguez captures the essence of the Summer Solstice, the time of year when the sun lingers at its zenith, signaling the start of summer. UPPER CRUST by Kevin Sabo :
Characterized by bold patterns, vibrant fabrics, and quirky grimace on distorted bodies barely contained by their frames, Kevin Saboâs subjects depict drag as an ongoing process of transformation. Entirely imagined and fictional, these character-style figures reference pivotal moments and influences in q***r and pop culture.
In âUpper Crustâ, Sabo focuses on the influence of high fashion on the drag community. Inspired by the documentary âParis Is Burningâ and Madonnaâs âGirlie Showâ Tour, that thrusted Vogueing into the mainstream, Sabo seeks to capture the extravagant, opulent essence of q***r admiration and vogue culture.
Beyond fashion, this series also takes a playful jab at the corporate workplace, imagining how it could be transformed through the lens of drag. Each subject, whether masculine or feminine, is dressed in extravagant, whimsical outfits, with names that mock corporate culture. Through the titles, Sabo humorously critiques what he considers absurdities of traditional corporate environments through wordplay and satirical references.

EDJI Gallery is excited to announce our upcoming solo exhibition with Mexican artist Carlos Rodriguez, opening June 26th in Brussels.
Carlos Rodriguez is a figurative artist based in Mexico City. Initially trained in graphic design at the Universidad de San Luis PotosĂ, he transitioned from a career in advertising, as an illustrator and art director, to a professional painter.
His work explores the realms of sexual desire, gender, and identity through drawings, paintings, and ceramics that celebrate the male figure. Drawing inspiration from classical painting, naĂŻve art, and elements of adult entertainment, his work captures the essence of men immersed in natural expressions of play and fantasy.
Over the past four years, Rodriguez has brought his art to the global stage, exhibiting in renowned galleries across New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, and Dubai. This exhibition will mark his first solo presentation in Belgium.

, 80/20 Rule, 2024. Acrylic & pencil on canvas.
â
Kevin Saboâs â80/20 Ruleâ offers a sharp critique of conformity and the male-dominated corporate world. The title alludes to the Pareto Principle, where 80% of effects come from 20% of causes, implying that a small, predominantly male segment of the workforce wields disproportionate power and influence within organizations.
The dark background and stark contrast of the figures accentuate the invisibility and marginalization of women and other underrepresented groups in these environments. By highlighting these uniform male figures, Sabo challenges the systemic barriers that uphold gender inequality, questioning the fairness and inclusivity of professional spaces.
In this piece, Sabo not only critiques productivity and conformity but also addresses the pressing issue of gender equality, urging viewers to reflect on who truly drives outcomes and shapes corporate culture.
