As an author, I could rave endlessly about books. I've always loved them. I wrote my first book when I was 12, and bonded with my future husband by lending each other our favourites. I always dreamed of seeing my own book on the shelves of a bookstore and now that dream has come true! The Bookman agreed to stock Hazel's Shadow and the rest of the series (Hazel's Mirror and Hazel's Portal).

My husband and I love to wander the shelves at The Bookman on a weekend, and now I get the added joy of seeing my own books among the collection. I hope one day an aspiring young author will find my books and be inspired to write their own!

Hazel's Shadow is a Young Adult Fantasy loosely based in Chilliwack. Hazel, a teen psychic, must survive getting trapped in a haunted house during a zombie apocalypse. The series is fast-paced, scary, and full of heart!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I was five or six the first time I told someone I wanted to be an author. When I was 12, I wrote my first book, a survival tale called Endless Mountain. Even though I thought it would be a best-seller, I’m glad now that I never published. I have grown so much since then. As a young adult, I wrote four more books and each time I was sure these were the ones. But by the time I got to writing the Hazel Series, it felt different. I felt a calm certainty that I had never felt before. I put everything I had into Hazel’s Shadow, all the skills I had practiced, and all the hope that had been building up over a lifetime. And then I published it as the world shut down.

I can’t tell you how much it hurt to cancel my long-awaited Launch Party. But Hazel’s Shadow did not disappoint. It went on to be a Semi-finalist for the 2020 Kindle Book Award: Young Adult Category and was runner-up for a Readers’ Choice award.
In my opinion, book 2 Hazel’s Mirror is even better than the first. And now book 3 is about to be published on April 13. I wrote the first book for my aspiring young self, really. The second was for the writer I’ve grown into. But this third book is for the readers. Hazel’s Portal was an exciting, chilling, and bittersweet journey. I hope you love it as much as I do.
